Spot meter

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:16 pm

The power armor hud shows a meter that I'm not sure about. What does a spot/core meter measure? So far I'm assuming it's the battery life of the power armored core. Any ideas?

I'm actually a little worried about that. If you watch, just a few seconds of using the jetpack drains the core meter by ~5%. If they ruin power armor by retcon-ing it into a limited use item, I will be very disgruntled.

Even if they do im sure someone will feel the same way as you and mod it away. No biggie. Mods can change anything in these games so its an easy fix

Thats what I was expecting of it after seeing the Preston Harvey/refugee section. The whole sequence looks awfully cinematic and scripted.

Also the fact that powerarmor has a special HUD at all hints at it being more than just another set of armor to put on. There's also power armor crafting. Clearly bgs is doing SOMETHING special for it but I'm unsure of exactly what.

This what it means in all likelihood:

It is probably a scripted use of an old power armor right at the start of the game.

So they give you a power armor with a damaged core just to wet your apetitite.

Then later in the game you get to build a real one, that core will last alot alot longer and will be easily refilled.

Its most likely a early game limiter consider it looks like you can find it as early as a level 2 character, as you progress through the game you'll find a solution that lifts that limit.

Core I'm pretty sure has to do with power and if you watch the footage carefully you'll notice "SPOT" doesn't come on until you've targeted and engaged an enemy. So, maybe it's assisted targeting or has something to do with spotting targets.

Edit: of course I'm just guessing like everyone else, so who knows...

Does the meter go down when he's walking?

I thought it was just power for the jetpack mode - so you can't fly it across the entire wasteland. You can only fly it in short bursts.

I thought "spot" was an indication that your head-mounted spotlight was turned on.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's this especially considering you can kinda see the flashlight and the light coming out when you look a bit closely at thehttps://youtu.be/BRFAuDOlK5Q?t=3m39s in the presentation.

You can see the "spot" thing pop up after the lights turn on.

Actually the T45 was battery only. Only the other models have an infinite fussion fission source. It would make sense if the T45 has only limited power.

That is what i said. That power armor will run out of power. The later ones wont or can be easily refilled

I really hope the armor doesn't have a battery. this is going to piss me off i love power armor and i would be really upset if its only a limited resource.

I know everything is supposed to be limited but isnt the armors Condition enough?

I hope the spot meter only reflects Jetpack or targeting use.

lefty is "spot on", pun intended :D the spot icon is a indication of the head mounted flashlight being turned on and off, not the targeting of enemies or the jetpack use, cause both of those happen either during a time were spot isnt on (shooting and targeting raiders and you dont see spot light up.) or spot is on before it is used in case of the jetpack.

I would guess that the cylindrical thing the PC puts in the back of the PA is a battery. How else is Power Armor going to be powered?

I like the idea of the Power Armor we get being a real fixer upper. Keeping her ready being a labor of love.

Old Mechanic (secretly ex-enclave/BOS washout): "Yessir, this old girls power supply will get the job done, but she'll drain faster than a lush on 1-cap-beer-night. Now, Brotherhood can almost live in these things, but to get 'er to that level, yer gonna need to replace a couple bits and bobs here and there."

Sole Survivor: "Where am I supposed to find that kind of hardware?"

Mechanic: "Nowhere easy!" Cue wheezy old man laughter.

It'll probably be that we get t-45d Power Armor early on in the game, but are limited by the battery, and replacement batteries will be few and far between. Then later on in the game, where we'd usually start getting Power Armor, we get the stronger models that no longer need a battery. It would be a pretty nice progression.

Would the Advanced Power Armor have a flashlight for spot mode, or nightvision?

It could be that using the jets to fly drains battery power, and that the battery will recharge over time if it is nuclear powered. This would again limit flying so that you don't just zoom across the wastes.

Edit to add info: Think of how a modern hybrid car works. Excessive throttle uses up the battery power, but braking and coasting uses regenerative energy to recharge the battery.
