Spousal Attachment?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:28 pm

Weird title, I know. I didn't know what else to call the thread, but hey, it works. I decided to post this since the topic hasn't really come up, and if it has, I'm sorry for the repost.

From the E3 coverage, we all know that you can morph/improve/downgrade both the wife and husband, but the character you leave the menu with will be the protagonist. (And the newborn in the crib will also have as many features as a tiny graphic baby can have based on you and your husband/wife.)

My question is: Will anyone let their significant other design your in-game spouse? Personally, my husband has never played Fallout 3 or any incarnation for that matter, but he loves character customization and enjoys watching me play the video games I enjoy.

He'll be designing my character's husband, and I think that is pretty neat.

Will anyone else be doing this? Or will you just design them yourself or not even bother?

Just thought it may be an interesting topic for discussion. I think it adds a bit more weight to your gameplay. After all, they are doomed from the start. I apologized to him ahead of time for the bomb to the face. (Because who knows if the spouse and Jr. make it inside the vault like you do.)

Meh, I'll probably just leave the spouse like she is for my first playthrough, though if the baby plays a bigger part in the game later on (which i'm pretty sure he/she might) and isn't just sort of a gimmick for that beginning section, I'd probably make both the parents as weird looking as possible and see what abomination of nature comes out.

I too think our offspring will play a key role in the narrative. Otherwise, the protagonist could have just been the son/daughter of a Vault-Tec employee or just part of a family preparing for the vault. There has to be a reason we have a child.

I'd point out that according to the video, you both get a bomb to the face.

Well, just the initial shock wave. I'd assume you all get into the vault after that, get some rad-away in you and you're all good to go.

The spouse isn't necesarilly doomed, we'll probably meet them later on. Who knows.

I've accepted a bomb to the face since Fallout 3.

Also, I don't like to assume what Bethesda has in mind for the spouse. The baby, I'm pretty sure, will be a big part of the storyline (only because, what's the point of having a newborn son if you're just gonna wipe him out with an aftershock five minutes in to the game), but the spouse is kind of a mystery. The spouse could simply be there for generating your offspring's appearance and just for the sake of not having a single mom/dad, which is kind of unheard of in the 50s. Of course, I really hope you see them later on (even if they are much older and your child is grown), but who knows.

Nah. Always feels weird playing someone who looks too much like someone I know.

Sadly I do not have the privilege (or curse, in some cases) of having a partner to do that. As such, I'll be modeling my in-game spouse myself. What I'm mainly interested in is that the baby will look like a cross between you and your spouse. Considering the baby in the E3 trailer looks pretty generic, I have a feeling we'll see him aged a bit. I'm really hoping we can engage raiders in some of the old father-son ultraviolence.

I think I will pick a preset for the npc spouse but i wont spend anytime working on said NPC.

I can only envision me spending lots of time on the spouse in a situation where i desided to pick X gender worked on this character and then realize i actually wanted to play the other gender. As I'll probably just keep what i worked on and just start on the opposite gender i originally picked it will result in me having worked on both spouses but there would be zero intent for it to work out that way.

Maybe during my second playtrough. If I let my lady play with the character creation system I won't step out of that vault for the next day or so.

Mind=blown.

I have to say, it would be interesting to use someone you know or a lover and see how they age. (If you see them again later on in the game. I only think they'll age because the child would most likely be older if they played an important role) Of course, a video game isn't really a good reference for that sort of thing, but it would be a good starting point.

Anyway, I definitely see where you're coming from though, and most people probably won't bother morphing the in-game husband/wife. I wouldn't if my husband didn't love character customization a much as I do. (Plus, f I made the husband look nothing like him, I'm sure I'd get a talking to. Safer to have him morph him in his image. "There can be only one!" - someone, from something.)

I'll be meticulously morphing the full couple every time. But I won't be making myself. So in my first playthrough (lady), I won't be making the groom look like my actual husband.

But I do like superimposing my husband into videogames. Just to see how good I am at it--just to see how close I can get. So on my second playthrough (dude) I may base that dude's looks offa my husband. But, again, I never like cloning myself in games, so the bride will not be me and I'll probably make her look like a trashcan.

This is actually the first time I've considered playing a Bethesda game with the default characters. I'll probably do a little editing, but not a lot. As for designing my husband's wife (and vice versa), I suspect we'll both be far too eager to get on with the game for that to appeal.

I'd be happy to let one of my Xs do it. Especially if the Little Mrs turns out to still be alive due to becoming a Ghoul.

... not a far fetch from reality, actually.

It's a good idea, makes a pleasant and refreshing change from the sixuality/romance threads I thought this was going to be.

Yeah I'd be up for it, although I've tried before to make my face but failed miserably to capture even a tiny similarity to my mug, so dunno how easy it would be.

No, you've got it all wrong. You think it was the first time that Vault-Tec salesman has been to the house?

"Why does Vault-Tec keep sending this guy out, honey?"

"Oh, you know. They have to make sure everything is correct on our paperwork. Changing the subject - when are you leaving for the Veteran's Hall again?"

I think I'll have my boyfriend create the husband as well. He'll probably get scared when he sees the baby though :D can't say I blame him either.
