?Spyware?

OK, so taking BTB's advice from his(?) recommended mods list I downloadd Connary's Graphic's Replacer part 1. But when I tried to download part 2 (from 4Shared) I got pop-up that said I was infected with all manner of Worms, Viruses, Etc. The 1st time I got the XP2011 virus. As I didn't know where it came from, after I recovered, I went back to download part 2 and got attacked again but was able to back out before it was too late. I ran a scan on my computer and found no problems. Any comments folks?

Connary does not wish for his work to be distributed any more, so whoever does it is a crook. Don't download the file, it's as simple as that. I know it's heartbreaking since BTB recommended his textures for a reason, but if the artist does not want his work to be admired, then you've got to respect that and look elsewhere. There's many a good texture replacer out there.

That's a shame. I am starting a new game and was hoping to improve the look of things. Over the years i've heard good things about Connary's work but I guess I waited to long to try this. Oh well, I snooze I lose.

I just downloaded Connary's bsa from btb a week back & hadn't any problems (my scanner is Avira Antivir).
Just checked the rar file, no found.
Didn't get any pop ups on 4shared (though I run Adblock plus).
So I would advice you to download Adblock and try again.

Never trust popups saying that you got infected. They may containg links to false anti-viruses that are real viruses/malware.

I had to brave 4shared as well to get the AllConnary file earlier today. Not very enjoyable.

Frequently the pop-ups themselves infect you without any input on your end. I've been infected with the same sort of thing and it wasn't something I 'fell for' and clicked a bunch of authorizations for. And it's a real shame that Connary pulled support for his mod, but you can't withdraw something from the internet once it's out there. Sorry, buddy, but if your work is the best available, we're going to use it.

I swear, people should have to take a class before using the internet. Never ever believe any pop-ups that appear, ever! And yes, they can infect your computer without you clicking anything. However, typically as long as you keep your security software up to date, you wont have any/many problems.

Yes, connary has specified he doesnt want people using his stuff and mentioning it here will get threads locked.(I do have an opinion about all this, but there isnt a reason to state it here)

My curiosity is what possible reason he might have for not wanting his work to benefit others. He's already completed it; his role in its lifespan is DONE. Now it's the end-user's time to control it.

Regardless, He Who Must Not Be Named must not be discussed either; it's the fastest way to get a thread locked on this forum.

With regards to advice about malware: If you run Firefox, I strongly suggest downloading NoScript. I also came across a lovely site - https://security.ngoinabox.org/ - that highlights some addons you can dl for Firefox to improve your security, as well as other security measures you can use to keep your computer safe. https://security.ngoinabox.org/en/firefox_main is the relevant section for your firefox security needs. :) It explains everything better than I can.

EDIT: for a truly in-depth look at security, refer to DEFRON's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1162786-data-privacy-day/ thread on these here very same BGSForums.

For Firefox, AdBlockPlus is extremely useful for preventing such ads.

Sorry!

wollibeebee: Look, I don't think it ought to be locking offence, just saying Connary.
Forum: [Shocked] He said it again!
Mod: You're only making it worse for yourself.
wollibeebee: Making it worse? How could it be worse? Connary, Connary, Connary.
Forum: Ooooooh!
Mod: I'm warning you... If you say Connary once more... [A stone flys by and hits the Mod.] Right. Who threw that? Come on. Who threw that?

Ahem. Pls continue.
