to stab or not to stab?

there has been a rough and intense argument about letting more stabbing, slashing, battering in the game i personally think YES a game where u can not kill with only guns but with diffrent weapons and also i want a assassins creed like dagger to be in brink so while free running u could stab and drag!

I used to play the free online FPS "Wolfteam" for a while. I eventually quit it because getting killed repeatedly by people who chose to just focus melee kills was rather frustrating. I mainly just used the wolf form to move around quickly, but there were some people with 80% melee kills. Sure, getting a wolf to drop before they manage to slash your face off was rewarding, but not enough to make up for the countless times I was slashed as I went around a corner.

Games that put too much focus on melee are more frustrating and less fun than ones that give it to you as a last ditch or situational tactic. SD decided to make Brink melees a tactical move instead of a damage focused one, and I'm interested about how it turns out. On paper, it sounds a lot more fun to me.

My only worry is that melee kills might effectively become a one hit kill, if it means you can just knock them down and spray them till they die without a chance to shoot back.

With with the pistol you wield a knife for stabbing and slashing.

With any other gun you hit them with the butt of your gun aka battering.

They aren't OHK so just work them in with your shooting.

Never played Wolfteam, but the instant close range one button easy autokill is a familiar experience in BFBC2, and much less enjoyable than both of you frantically trying to kill each other with smg's at point blank.

Have similiar concerns that it will be a similar experience, just taking a little bit longer to do, time will tell.

the reality actually is that guns are used nore than anyother weapons in video games mixing both would balance and make brink unbeatable

Melee is one thing. Instant-death one hit melee is something else.

The chainsaw in DOOM = awesome
The Gauntlet in Quake 3 = awesome

knife kills in BC2 = lame
knife kills in COD = really lame
Commando perk in COD = where the devs even thinking?

the only problem with having a blade like AC is the legal issue with ubisoft and the implementation in this game which would take away from the feel of resistance or security and more like a just kill kill kill..... removes the emphasis on team play. i understand the blend of melee and firearms will definitely make it unbeatable, but removing team play just for a extra blade is not good enough for me.

+1 Capt.

i hated the MLC kinfers in CoD, totally ruined the game and HC: SD

First person SHOOTER, NOT FIRST PERSON MELEE RUNNER.

That being said, I agree with what the Captain said.

The "Hidden Blade" in Assassin's Creed is essentially just a variant of a hidden dagger, which is the most common assassin/thief/rogue weapon.

Well since there are no assassins, thieves or rogues in in the game (along with no backstab attack) I don't see how having this weapon in Brink is relevant.

And you have researched it carefully enough? If you had you know that you can't dual wield knives.

Has there ever been a day he isn't wrong? Or that he's posted something beneficial, informative or educated? I'm surprised he hasn't been banned for trolling yet.

I'd love a FIRST PERSON MELEE RUNNER, possibly even as a Brink mod or a sequel to Mirror's Edge. However, a FIRST PERSON MELEE RUNNER would have a melee combat system, featuring blocks, counters, attack reversals, knives, bludgeons...

When you say "some of us" you actually mean just you. You should use the search feature on the top right corner to look for some info and even look in HORSE's compendium (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102014-brink-info-compendium-v2/)

BTW, there is not dual wielding. That is just in the trailer.

I think the idea of knives will be a bit un balanced. No.1 - They wont be as powerful as guns. Are you going to run up to someone and continuously knife them until they die? No. 2 - What if you have Kevlar armor. I doubt the knife will go through that.

Melee attacks are inherently unbalanced when compared to guns. Ever hear the phrase "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight"?

When people start looking for "balanced" melee attacks, they usually want something that allows them to run in close and kill people fast. When devs actually put in "balanced" melee attacks, it basically means "over-powered" melee attacks, because that's the only way to offset the huge disadvantage of range. Sure, its "balanced", but I don't think it SHOULD be. Its also frustrating when there are OP melee attacks and only fun for the one doing the killing.

SD went ahead and balanced melee attacks a different way though. They do very little damage, but give you a large tactical advantage. If you want to be a CQC player, then just learn to sneak in, knock people on their ass, then take them out from there. At least then the opponent doesn't feel like there's nothing they could've done about the guy behind him with a OHK knife. At least then his buddies can save him, or he can shoot while on his back.

If a multiplayer-game did actually allow agency-style (imagine Splinter Cell) gaming, melee-combat could be balanced.

Ya they should also add marathon, lightweight, and commando. As well as a feature that lets you teleport through bullets over a 10ft gap allowing you to get intant kills. Oh wait we can all just go play mw2 if we want that crap.
