Other than the quest objective, is there any point to this staff? I'm trying to find a reason to add it to my shield and staff mage's repertoire, but nothing comes to mind.

Well, you could seek a mod to power it up. But other than that, the staff is just bragging rights. In my case, the staff is buried deep within the earth. Because Deep Storage.

It's kind oh, meh, really. Uses up it's recharge supper quick, and is not really effective for, well, anything.

I believe for the vanilla game the staff isn't working as intended. With patches on the PC though it's a must have as a pure mage. Free magicka, yaay

I guess that's just it. I don't need "free" magicka because all my offense comes from staves.

I also carry around a shield (or two)!

It's been quite fun. Never played anything like in Skyrim.

A properly working SoM and the Staff of Jyrik Gaulderson used in tandem, will shut down a magic using enemy. While dealing damage you reduce their Magicka by 70pts/sec. I see them as two of the most powerful staves in the game.

It's a bummer Beth never properly patched it. In theory it was supposed to be a good staff for a mage, but in practice it isn't for anyone playing on a console.

If you got this staff earlier in the game it would be pretty powerful but usually by the time I get it it's worthless.
