Stalhrim?

Post » Sun Dec 19, 2010 5:51 pm

Should there some kind of form of Stalhrim in the game. Seeing as the Nords used it to make tombs for themselves, maybe there should be royal mausoleums with tombs and statues of Stalhrim. A few Nords could also forge weapons with it too.

Thoughts?

Edit: Should it also be possible to find the tombs of ancient Nordic Royalty? Some might be outside of cities, after all, there could be barrows or mounds/ cairns of Stalhrim, right?

Obviously, yes. It's part of the ancient Nord culture, if it wasn't in Skyrim at all then that would just be odd. Unless there was an explanation, of course.

Yes, of course. These are the Nords we're talking about.

But what I'm really wondering is how many people that read this are going to wonder what Stalhrim is.

Stalhrim is as important as Mead was, or is, considering it was one of their exports. I would love it if they kept it kind of on a "need to know" basis though, like they did in Morrowind. Something that would be akin to breaking the rules just to talk about it amongst the Nords.

By the way:
Didn't most Nords think it sacrilegious or, well, not normal to forge armor or weapons out of it too? I remember the Nords who forged Stalhrim weapons and armor in Solstheim were rogues in Bloodmoon.

I don't know what it is. All I know is that there is a basic village mod called Stalhrim vllage.

For those who don't know what Stalhrim is:

It's a kind of unique ice that the Nords use to make tombs for their dead, but its reserved only for them. No other race can use it. You can also forge armor and weapons out of it.

Haven't played Bloodmoon, but I'm going to go on a limb there and guess it's meteoric iron?

EDIT: Ice? Weird.

The amount of people that didn't play Morrowind astounds me. :facepalm. Oblivion-babes. Sheesh.
Stalhrim is a very very hard substance that encases nordic bodies in tombs. Requires a certain tool to chip it off, and it can make very good armor. Well, it did in Bloodmoon.

Anyway, I'm not certain but it could be native to Solstheim. I have nothing to back that up though, as I could be wrong. I just don't remember hearing anywhere or mention of it being from Skyrim. Just that it was Nordic.

I know, right. How have some people only played the newest game and not the previous one? So crazy! Facepalm! "Oblivion-babes" haha! They're young and/or ignorant because they didn't play Morrowind!

This a good point to consider. The Stalhrim in Solstheim was formed by the Skaal shamans around their dead to protect them, and the nerevarine harvested it from the traditional burial burrows. Stalhrim might not be a part of Skyrim burial practices, and may be unique to the Skaal. The Skaal religious beliefs are very different from that of Mainland Skyrim, and in many ways their culturally different from their brothers on mainland Tamriel. So no guarantees of Ice armor.

Uh, yeah. Because I definitely said something about someone being ignorant, right? I definitely insinuated that anyone who hasn't played Morrowind is an idiot, right?
Oh, wait. Whadd'ya know. I actually said nothing that remotely resembled those sentiments.

Armor and weapons made of Stalhrim would be great. Tombs made/sealed with it would be great too :D

I'm not at all sure that it's a universally Nordic thing, and isn't just unique to Solstheim. I wouldn't be surprised if it were, but who knows.

meteoric Iron? Or Meteoric Glass? I doubt it but now that I think about it it does look very similar. I am pretty badly color blind though, so not sure.

It is not meteoric in any sense. It's a sort of magic ice.

I know that but I was just thinking about the welkynd stones and the color of stalhrim. They look the same to me.

I get stuff like that mixed up all the time. Like in the "glass/elven sword debocle" thread, I thought that armor and sword was ebony. Now I understand its elven.
