STALKER Discussion

Holy [censored], I think X-18 has scarred me for life. As if the anomalies that want to turn me into a well done stalker steak weren't bad enough, I've got a poltergeist throwing [censored] at me and Snorks trying to tackle me from outside the range of my light. My gun keeps jamming, and the ambient noises make Amnesia: TDD seem like Barbie Horse Adventure.

Haha, yeah. Going into labs always creeps me the hell out, even when I know what's in them. I usually start texting a friend or messaging someone over steam, acting like a little girl and asking for mental support. :P

Well, I managed to make it through X16 and X10 without too much emotional scarring. Turning off the Scorcher was pretty harrowing though. My armor was basically falling off of me the entire time I was in there. I'm really loving the atmosphere in the game so far. I'm now in Pripyat, having just found the secret code thingy in the hotel. I liked storming Pripyat with the other Stalkers, it got a lot more out of me than the average FPS, where you're basically a one-man-army and your squadmates have a mental disorder, leaving you to do all the killing. Let's see... I managed to grab a Storming Obokan (has a GL) when I went to find Doctor, that's been working out pretty well so far. I don't like any of the NATO weapons. I would normally use the LR-300 but the NATO scope is just terrible.

Also, by some force of nature, Mr. "Get out of here Stalker" has been killed. I was running through Bar for something or other, and I noticed two dead bodies on my map. One was the aforementioned, and the other was a random Private from the military. I call BS. That had to be none other than Solid Snake, how else would he manage to sneak past all of the other guards?

Edit: Where does the game put the screenshots you take? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Try looking in your shared/public documents folder, not the regular My Documents area.

After you clear out Red Forest and move into Pripyat weird stuff can happen at the Bar as other factions move through it (in offline mode for AI) in order to reach the further areas. The military are among these factions.

another mod for CoP that is very very good is SGM 1.7, its a russian mod that was translated to english. there are more factions added as well as quests and tons of new weapons. the downside to the mod is that it doesnt contain atmosphere by default although if your handy with text editing you can do it yourself. also some of the weapons are unbalanced but i just dont use those. my fave part were the landmines. :) they got me a few times when i wasnt paying attention.

you can find basic tools over at the sawmill in zaton. It's north of the anomalous swamp and the Krug antenna complex. A second set of fine work and basic tools exist in yanov. You'll never find calibrate tools until you're almost done with the main questline.

Cardan also can't perform certain upgrades. For some armor upgrades you'll have to go to the ecologists bunker in yanov. (and both cardan and nitro have a "special" upgrade that they can only perform once they have an entire tool set.)

http://artistpavel.blogspot.com/2010/04/mod-call-of-pripyat-complete.html :)

There's a normal and advanced version. Normal offers some of visual enhancements but keeps the original game's system requirements, whereas Advanced looks much better, and has higher system requirements, as it was in v1.0.

Saves made with Complete 1.0 are only compatible with 1.01 Advanced, not the normal version.

Try doing stealth kills with a suppressed weapon (AKA silenced gun), preferedly with a good strong handgun to cut the chances of "OH FUDGE!" DOWN if they ACTUALLY survive a headshot

I can't find a silencer for my weapons anywhere, otherwise I would. It just surprised me that it took 3 shakes to kill a dude with the alt fire.

Also, I joined Freedom, because that's where the bros are. Hopefully that wont screw anything up in the long run for me. Im on my way to get the second key for X18. Otherwise, im not opposed to killing everyone in Duty.

im still interested in this Stalker going multiplatform that was discussed awhile back. Looking at Metro 2033, i would love for that engine to be in a console port for stalker. i absolutely loved that game.

You can look for a physical copy of one of the games in stores or online, or http://store.steampowered.com/app/4500/ http://store.steampowered.com/app/41700/ from Steam.

Not sure what the store link on the official site is supposed to link to.

Also, funny thing, if you buy Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam first, you get a loyalty discount on Call of Pripyat. And the discount is higher than the cost of Shadow of Chernobyl itself. This means that if you buy SoC first and then CoP, you pay less in total than for CoP by itself.

Thanks :) I went and bought it on Steam, and I love it so far. Even though I played it for 2 hours, forgot to save, died, and now I have to start again. :P

Haha, so I figured this was as good a time as any to try the mod the OP linked to, I looked it up on Youtube, and honestly, I have kind of a hard time believing it's the same game. ^_^

Well after an intensely angering corrupted save screwed me over (was just about to hit pripyat at that time) had to restart

Got all my progress back and i'll soon be venturing in the underground to enter the ghost city, and now some thoughts

1. I AM IN LOVE, with the FN2000 (such beautiful accuracy, and full-auto!)

2. Where to get my SEVA suit, nimble or mr "ALOHA!" from the yanov free station

3. Why do i get this feeling I'm getting good and well IN OVER MY HEAD)

Well wish me luck when i take off for it, and now i must depart "runs from an in-coming pack of blind dogs)

Hey guys. So I just finished SOC again. I got one of the good endings this time.

Surprisingly, I'm still up for some more S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I'm thinking about giving Clear Sky another go, it's the only Stalker game I haven't finished (I always get about 2 hours in before I get bored). So instead of trying that game again I might just try finishing CoP for the 2nd time.

What should I do? Should I play CS or CoP? If it's Clear Sky I need a mod that makes it less boring and frustrating than vanilla. For CoP, just something that changes the game enough to make my 2nd playthrough enjoyable :)

Cheers

I was never a big fan of that rifle in any of the games. The AS VAL (or whatver it's named in Stalkerish) was my favourite in vanilla CoP, in no small part due to the fact that you can upgrade it to maximum accuracy. That actually broke the game a bit :P

2. Where to get my SEVA suit, nimble or mr "ALOHA!" from the yanov free station
Nimble's is simply more expensive, iirc. Some people would argue that Nimble's is technically 'better' because in comparisson the Nimble SEVA gets green bars, but honestly even if that isn't a bug of some sort the difference would be unnoticable. It really doesn't matter.

I would personally recommend finishing Clear Sky. In 2 hours you couldn't have gotten very far.
The Complete mods are always easy to recommend. I personally use Redux for CoP, but it's not to everyone's taste.

2. Nimble charges a consisent price, and is the better choice if Owl or Hawaiian either aren't selling one or selling at a higher price.

CoP Complete update 1.02 has been released, with some minor fixes for both versions and a crash fix for the normal (lite) version.

I just finished the game. The X-8 laboratory level was great, even better than the one in SoC. Creepy!

It was also very nice to meet
Spoiler
Strelok, the player character from SoC
near the end. And the ending slides were a nice touch.

Looking forward to STALKER 2!

Are there any confirmed fixes/patches for the XRengine? I've never been able to to start up Pripyat and I'm having the same problem with a recent reinstall of Shadow, too. Super [censored] frustrating. Is it worth getting it on Steam? I had heard some horror stories about Steam copies of the games being completely corrupted and unplayable.
