Stamina used by dodging

Post » Sat Mar 08, 2014 4:07 am

I just have a feeling that dodging cocts too much stamina.

It is almost not possible to use any skills based on stamina and same time do some dodging. Mages will also not use it a lot because they do not invest too much into stamina.

The balance should be:

- there is some cost of dodge - 5-10% so it is not possible to dodge all the time

- the cost is not too big because doing dodge twice uses all stamina and almost nobody uses it - so it is only rare and non used option.

Totally agree. By the end of last weekend I had a level 16 dragon Knight and just for fun I poured ALL my points into stamina. I could roll about 4 times before I ran out, if I remember correctly.

I guess its to prevent the rolling all around the place to prevent being caught. Don't forget that the dodging moves your player fairly quickly.

If they lowered the cost, then there would be less consequence to its use, which also affects the need for timing and the proper use for the skill.

I'm happy enough the way it is.

Bu happy do you mean you use it during figh as element of your fight style (and you are happy with it) or you just do not use it and you are happy it is hard to use?

He means dodge should be use as a tactical tool and not something to be spammed!
I only belive that fighters should be able to dodge more than frail mages!

As stated above, its got its place to be used & has a consequence if you spam it.

So Im happy the way it is, and that is you have to make a decision on if or when to use it.

If you could use it all the time & with little cost, it would just make the ability a little less meaningful.

Or as the kids would say.....take less skillz to be l33tz.

This was something I noticed instantly when joining PvP. Since dodging share stamina with attacks, you basicly have two choices: dodge or dps.

Now, how do you win fights in PvP generally? You dps. Even if you're tank built, you need to do damage, thus spending your stamina. Dodging wont win you anything. And even if you do want to dodge to avoid an enemy attack... you dont have the stamina to attack afterwards.

Either the cost need tweaking or the dodge mechanic removed from the stamina pool IMO. Unless I have missed a high tier trait that reduces cost or something. It pretty much ruin it for the players that want to be warriors rather than magic users. ESO forces everyone to "balance" :/

Just reminding.. you also use Stamina to Block, no matter if its spells or swords. Also, you use it to sneak, burning it when you are actually moving. If you stand still in sneak, it does not cost and actually regens.

You mean, like wearing med armor. It has like .. 3-4 different passives for stamina regen/cost per piece equipped?

You probably lost a lot of stamina from dodging because you might have been wearing heavy armor. Nonetheless, I think they should reduce the stamina cost for dodging just a bit, not too crazy so you can just dodge every second because that would be outrageous.

I'd dare say that a swift and jumpy mage would have an uncanny ability to dodge as opposed to a 300lb Orc donned in another 175 lbs of heavy armor.

@Jesuis Cache-Cache, that is very reasonable. You'd think that the heavy armored people would be less efficient at dodging. But it matters what armor is being worn because some Mages might wear heavy armor for a Battle Mage set-up.

You have to remember, your opponents have the same consequences.........any decrease in stamina use will also affect them, making any advantage you thought you had a moot point.

You have to select the build you want & the gear you use & then decide in the moment the best skills to use.

If you make the stamina/magicka use meaningless, everyone will wear heavy armor, sneak right up to you & roll out of any & all your CC's.

This makes CC's meaningless, making many other skills meaningless.

The attributes have their purpose & I think are well enough designed. I believe any kind of tweaking will completely off-set the balance it has and the game will deteriorate into mindless nonsense.

Basically those that prefer to use magicka will have the same amount of dodge rolls and deal more damage as some one being stamina based, who has to deal damage and dodge using his stamina bar...

Not sure how this is fair atm....

They should just put in a timer where after the first dodge if you dodge again your stamina drains are much higher. IRL works this way really.

I totally agree.

At the moment melee is by far at a disadvantage then ranged and this needs to be fixed.

Why must we melee draw from our abillity pool when dodging, when magicka users dont have to?

Unfair.

But melle uses magica for many skills - it is really fair if you play a bit.

I'm not entirely sure how much unfair it may be, didn't do any math, but also wanted to point out not all ranged, just magicka based one, bow mains are screwed either way.

Yeah well...pure magicka users have an entire seperate pool to draw from when dodging.

Personally i dont dodge i just use the active blocking which cost alot less and usually lets me counter attack because my block stunned the target
