Standard Military Weapons Set?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:58 pm

Im just wondering, what would a basic weapons set for a military personal that is not in a combat situation be from before the war? I heard that they would have experiemental (back then) energy weapons, with a few traditional guns... but what would they really have?

I presume standard would be:
(10mm or laser?) Pistol
(Combat?) Knife

Then depending on what kind of unit they are they would have certain weapons (like Assult rifles or Rocket Launcherrs). But what kinds of squads would there be?

Any helps? :)

In the military you really do not get to walk your gun when not in duty.

At best they might keep their sidearm but I am not seeing anyone but commissioned officers with then and a sidearm would be a pistol, the N99 (10mm) and the AEP7 (laser pistol) would make more sense that the Enclave Plasma Pistol.

The only personnel who would be carrying firearms on a pre-war DOD installation, would be either:
Army: Military Police
Navy: Master-at-Arms, Rifle Security Companies/Ship's Marine Security Detachment
Air Force: Air Police(Remember they wouldn't be Air Force Security Forces in the Fallout Universe)
Marines: Military Police
Office of Naval Intelligence(Remember No NCIS in the Fallout Universe): Agents and Special Agents
Air Force Office of Special Investigations:Agents and Special Agents
Army CID: Agents
Marine CID: Agents
DOD Police/Security: Personnel assigned to security/policing duties

And of course, any other MOS/Rating who would be assigned to a security or provost position.

Also, I guess if you were to include CCDW, that might raise the number of servicemen who are carrying weapons(though of course, subject to base standing orders and state laws....).

Well if you look at actual military units most of them have a mix of weapons. Most of the unit is made up of standard riflemen, usually equipped with a standard assault rifle. Most units then have a machine gunner. In real life this is usually a squad automatic weapon, so a light machine gun, but I suppose if you look at the weapons in the game this role would be filled by the minigun? not sure on that.
There is usually also a designated marksman, so they'd probably have a sniper rifle. Depending on the teams combat role they may also have anti-armour weapons, usually just single-shot light anti-tank weapons, but the fallout equivalent would have to be the missle launcher (I can't imagine the fatman would ever have been standard issue!).

As for whoever said that units not in combat wouldn't have more then a side-arm, your right to some extent. They'd still have them, but they would be left at the base unless the unit was training or needed them for some other reason. It's not as though soldiers only get given their weapons when they reach a combat area, but they don't walk down the street carrying them.
