Star Trek: The Secret Of Vulcan Fury

Post » Wed Apr 08, 2009 10:06 am

I've enjoyed gamesas games for a long long time.......

That being said I know that one of gamesas's last projects was The Secret Of Vulcan Fury. It was never released to the public but I believe, at that time, it was close to being completed. I know that gamesas probably does not have the licensing to make Trek games anymore. But I have always wondered what happend to the SOVF and if there is ANY possibility of completing and/or releasing that game.

It was hardly one of gamesas's last projects - it was cancelled in 1999, while gamesas made games until ca. 2004. It wasn't even the last IPLY Star Trek game. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

There is no chance that SOVF will ever be completed (well, I suppose someone could invent a time machine, travel back to 1999 and copy the source code, but...)

Are you saying none of the work that went into it still exists? What about the voice recordings? I believe it was the last thing DeForest Kelley worked on. Praying that the Secret Of Vulcan Fury voice recordings still exist

There might be some of the assets tucked away in some archive, but I don't know for sure. I'm sure they will never be released.

As to the DeForest Kelly voice over work... If I remember correctly, by the time he was going to be recorded, his voice was in bad shape. They were never planning on using his voice and had a sound-alike voice actor lined up. I know some of the other cast members did record their lines (or, at least, a partial set of lines... keep in mind that the design was in a great state of flux), but I'm pretty sure that DeForest never did. I could be wrong.

I heard a rumor that the game was 85% to 90% complete... if only gamesas had the source code, they could open-source the game to the public.

That rumor would be very wrong. SOVF was not that close to being completed. If it was, they would have completed it. SOVF was _years_ away from being finished. Much work had been done, that is true. However, they were planning on having to redo a lot of the earlier work as the project had more than its far share of troubles.

So if I could some how get my hands on a flux capacitor with 1.21 jigawatts and installed it in my 1982 S10 truck I could not only save the day of Star Trek but also save Fallout and Brian Fargo and if I feel the need I'll even go back further and save 8 tracks.... aaaawww 8 tracks... 8-) Image
I told the Overseer of Vault 13 I'd give everything to save everyone, and so I did, I saved them all. Since then I've felt loneliness.
