I've got a question. In TFA who's sabre is that? They said it's Luke's and his father's before him? What, as in Anakin's or Vader's? It's got black ribs on it, so I presume it's Vader's? If so, why hasn't it got a red blade?

@Sentinel

Actually, Breaking Bad was never planned from the get go, Better Call Saul isn't as well (although the ending is already set, of course). Vince Gilligan has stated numerous times he likes the spontaneity and pressure of creating on the fly instead of having it all laid out right from the start. He considers himself a "gardener" instead of an "architect" when it comes to creating stories; setting things up, watching them grow and develop to see what takes hold and has potential as opposed to having a master plan set in stone ahead of time. His reasoning was stated again on Better Talk Saul last week, he feels if he writes something too far ahead it takes away the chance to change and adapt which can lead to a better story overall as it opens up creativity instead of having tunnel-vision which can prevent other new ideas from taking shape. I suggest you check it out to see his logic on the process.

I'm 50/50 on that kind of writing process. In some mediums I see it as a positive way to go about it, but sometimes, depending on the writer/s, they can end up writing themselves in a hole if they aren't careful...but, I don't think LOST would have had a better ending if they spent a couple years writing it before they started filming. Heroes could have benefited from having a master plan...but who's to say, really?! It went downhill so early the only way that I could see it being better is if they had different writers altogether.

Anakin's saber did have black ribs

Vader's was essentially identical but with more black finishings.

Ahh, but that was lost at Bespin, when http://media.t3.com/img/resized/lu/xl_Luke%20loses%20hand-650-80.jpg. See that http://i.stack.imgur.com/CakF7.jpg falling away? That's Luke's severed hand still holding the sabre. Yep, it's gone for good!

I'm sure Maz will explain it in VIII.

edit: Wasn't that one of the early rumors about TFA? Them finding Luke's hand and Saber in the beginning of the film or something?

Even in the Expanded Universe Luke manage to get his old Lightsaber back and even gave it Mara Jade I believe.

I would like to hear them explain how a sabre that was lost in the depths of a Jupiter like gas giant can realistically come back as if by magic! Now don't tell me, it came back via the Force? But seriously, it'd be much more believable if it was Vader's sabre, and Luke simply modified it with a new crystal and parts.

Obviously the EU writers didn't watch ESB closely either, aye?

I found this tidbit on how Anakin/Luke's Lightsaber got recovered from Bespin, EU probably explains it better but at least it sorta explains it :) .

No sorry, but that was his hand clutching the sabre falling away into the Bespin clouds. There was no clogging into vents, that was definitely his hand holding the sabre, lore.

Interesting, maybe they will go with something similar? What if Deltoro is a dark side Luke clone!?

I know vince didn't have the story fully planned, but he had a very good idea how the end was gonna be for the most part, and basically came up with it on the way otherwise. I mean he knew Walt was gonna die, it was just a matter how he was gonna die.

I see that as a different take than heroes where they had no idea where they were going at all and just started winging it.

I just think a trilogy of star wars should have some sort of master plan behind it. I think the next one will do good and be better, but it's the last one I'm kinda concerned about because that's usually when a writer starts trailing off and fizzling the story when they don't have an endgame.

But of course this is all speculation, I really hope they have at least some idea how the story of the skywalkers is gonna end, even if it's just a key plot point or two.

As for the guys talking about the sabre, it is the lightsabre from bespin for sure, it's just a matter how it was found.

Did we see the sabre actually fall into the clouds in bespin? Because I recall it falling down the giant shaft in cloud city, we don't know what's at the bottom.

I always imagined a janitor was mopping the floor and it landed next to him. From there he could have sold it on the market, maybe to some collector in a cantina who then takes these rare items and pawns them at maz's where a thousand years old entity lives and would know how much it's worth. There maz saw it and paid a handsome price for it.

Honestly there's lots of explanations to how it could have been found. I wasn't too concerned on the explanation probably because I didn't see it as lost forever. It's been like 30 years, just like the millennium falcon, it could have changed hands many times in that period and the explanation could be as simple as this guy sold it to this guy, who stole it from that guy and then sold it to maz.

When Luke lands on the antenna you can see something falling to bespin. Looks like a hand but it's hard to tell.

What are talking about? The sabre could have not fallen into the planet just like Luke himself didn't. There could have been something it was snagged on, someone probably found it. You're getting worked up over nothing.

I've tried the link and it works, unless you're either on a Commodore 64 or a troll?

Looks like his hand. Being the saber is a smooth metal cylinder wouldn't it be in the realm of possibilities that it continued to roll or slide at some point instead of stopping like Luke and his hand would have?

It doesn't link for me either. I'm on mobile so that may be the issue. I copied the address when I quoted you to see it.

Also your links earlier are the same. I didn't see them till I got on my laptop.

You seem literally hellbent on demanding his sabre fell into the planet when there are many possibilities. I don't get it. There is not a definitive answer as to what happened to it, just your assumptions. So stop acting like your words (and angry red links) are gospel.

On some forums they've suggested it might be Luke's pistol, but as http://s18.postimg.org/c4gsvz2ah/vlcsnap_2014_12_04_06h16m02s110.png picture shows he's still got it in his holster. I'm not sure about rolling, because his hand might have stopped it from doing so. When I was a kid I thought it was just a bit of garbage, but recently I read on a more official site that it was his hand.

On a different note, where's Lando?

Angry red lines? It's just my way of making my links stand out. And it's the letters that are red, not the lines underneath them.
