Star Wars Episode VII New Trailer

Post » Fri Apr 17, 2015 4:16 pm

Just saw the new trailer for the new Star Wars movie: https://youtu.be/ngElkyQ6Rhs . I sooo want this to be that SW come back we all have been wanting for, I want this movie to wash away the bitter taste Episodes 1-3 made and give us that sweet tasty ambrosia that the original Star Wars films gave us :touched: .

I'm excited. The trailer doesn't have that campy Lucas feel that he put into his movies. And that's a good thing.

Zero chance it meets the fandoms expectations that they use the wonderful lore from the EU. Though will the fandom be pleased with the DU? We'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'm not getting any New Hopes up yet about this matching any of the quality that the original six movies and the primary EU novels gave us.

Who is narrating in this? I heard rumors that they actually did do a Han-Leia marriage, so who is this offspring? Who did Luke have child with? PLEASE BE MARA JADE! For Binks sake, please use some of the greatest characters from EU. Mara Jade, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Kyp Durron....

Scary thought...what if this guy is a "Clone" of Luke?

That mask that was shown, that was totally a Revan mask. A guy that lived thousands of years ago.

EDIT: Ohhhh....so it's Luke narrating that? Bummer. Thought it would be a bit more interesting at this point...you know, like the EU was.

"Chewie...we're home."

Yep, that's definitely going to win back the crowd. It's so weird to see Han Solo again. Obviously he's gotten a lot older than before, but it's good to see him. Chewie, on the other hand, looks like he hasn't aged a day. Are Wookies long-lived or something?

And the melted Darth Vader mask. Something tells me that's going to be important. Maybe the villain aspires to be a Darth Vader 2.0?

Also, love the kickass new characters. :D Can't wait to see them on the big screen.

best part of that trailer was clearly Han Solo at the end, "Chewie..we're home".. although, Lukes narration at the beginning felt like a nice shout out to Return of the Jedi at first..

the Mangled Darth Vader mask though had me chuckle.. the thought that it could survive the Death Star II's self destruction and still remain mostly intact just made me chuckle

Yes, Wookies are supposed to live several standard centuries. At least according to the EU, which it looks the the DU is taking into their new movie as well.

It wasn't on the Death Star II when it was destroyed, Luke took it with him. In RoTJ, the funeral pyre that Luke setup with for Anakin Skywalker clearly had the mask visible.

If only, if only...

Still, despite being a big EU fan myself, I couldn't help but to get some goosebumps from just hearing the music again, and seeing Han Solo and Chewie...that was just nice. Have to add however, that was a pretty badass stormtrooper with the cape.

I had completely forgot about that... since Luke took off his Helmet before Vader passed on on the Death Star, i seem to have remembered him leaving the Helmet on it as he took Vader onto the shuttle.. ahh well, it has been a few years since i last watched Return of the Jedi

It also could have been a movie goof with the helmet being on Endor(I almost typed Gondor lol) after Luke took it off Vader.

As I understand it, the DU is deriving whatever they think works from the Legends/EU materials. Star Wars Rebels has re-canonized a few things from Legends so far.

Also, the helmet was on Vader/Anakin's remains when Luke made the funeral pyre. Hence, why they're melted and burnt here.

Even Lucas took stuff from the EU to make the prequel trilogy.

I cant stand Rebels. It really is on the level of the 80s stuff that almost killed interest in the franchise.

Thank the Force for Timothy Zahn (and he isn't even my favorite EU author).

I can't wait. This is gonna be the first movie in at least a decade that i will probably go to on opening day, buy tickets in advance or whatever. It's not even that far off either, 8 months goes by fast.

I'm very interested to what the story is going to be though, and who the cast are (on IMDB they got some big actors here, so we shall see). I guessing the stormtrooper dude is probably who luke is talking to in the trailer and is the main character.

I wonder if Leia is going to be trained in the force at all? Just the way he mentioned that she had the gift, i imagine that she will probably have some sort of seer type of force powers mostly, rather than combat oriented like luke will be.

Anyway, the trailer looks pretty sweet IMO, even though all it does is build the hype up even more.

Nothing will ever meet an overhyped persons expectations, ever.

I think the fandom is more cautiously optimistic, as most people are aware of the fact that it can be a bomb (prequels anyone). But it looks good, and it looks like star-wars.

I personally liked the trailer, it doesn't give away too much, it showed some more scenes, oh and the new lightsaber still looks cool.

I'm worried about it myself. Don't get me wrong, I figure it'll probably be a great movie on its own, but I'm worried that both the film and the setting will just be more of the same stuff from 30 years ago- Rebels fighting an evil Empire, Jedi are still almost extinct, and 30 years of warfare has nothing to show for it except admittedly some great looking armors on the Empire's side- instead of something new. If I wanted a grimdark setting of perpetual war and unchanging status quo, I'll go to Warhammer 40k.

That said, the strange chrome trooper, Kylo Ren's mask, and the red banner behind the Stormtroopers all feel reminescent of the Old Republic era, and that's not a bad thing.

Trailer looked fine to me. Interesting, plenty of good shots and John Williams music to go with it. I'm nothing but ready to go out and see it. The constant comparisons to the prequels and people saying "it'd better be better than the prequels" or "Disney+Star Wars= disaster" is enough to make me tear my hair out though. Especially my brother, because he won't even give it a chance, so really his opinion is invalid if he won't reserve judgement until he's seen the actual movie.

I had the same thoughts about Avengers, Iron Man, well, the whole new Marvel Universe on movies (and TV Shows) and I can easily say it has been my favourite franchise from the last years.
