Is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic a good game?

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:38 pm

You could allso try out number two as well, Alot of people bash it (with reason) but if you look past its flaws its really good, Its much more darker than number one, And your Teacher in it is perhaps one of the best written characters in the Star Wars legacy.

Yea I liked two, it was rushed and had its flaws but it was still a fun game to play.

Just don't get too attached to the story explored in KotOR 2 if you decide to play that one, as looking over what BioWare's doing with The Old Republic MMO in terms of lore it seems like they fully intend to trample all over what Obsidian did.

It's for that reason alone that I can't bring myself to play an evil character in KOTOR. I like all of the characters too much to be so cruel to them, especially Mission.

The first time I did it, I felt like the worst human being alive. It was done extremely well.

Yes!

This summarizes my feelings about the game being good.

Erm, it's only one of the best RPGs of any franchise yet made.

The sequel would have blown the original away in terms of storyline if it hadn't been perverted beyond a coherent ending by Lucasarts pushing it out a year early, but it's still well worth playing through as well.

This summarizes my disappointment in Lucasarts for needing the game out in time for the holiday's. :banghead: Still, even with it's rushed ending and missing story parts, I think I like The Sith Lords just a little bit more than the original KotOR. :P

I pulled an all nighter playing knights of the old republic. I remember the sun rising in my room as I was running around Dantooine which coincidently had a sun rising in the distance.

Probably one of the most memorable experiences I ever had playing a video game. Not sure why.

I thought it was a chore to play. That style of game-play does nothing for me. On top of that, the story is a tad predictable.

Then again, you said you're waiting for DA2, so go ahead. As I thought DA: Origins was terrible as well.

Blasphemy! You Sir have the worst taste when it comes to RPGs then. :stare:

But to each their own I suppose.

Despite it having a lasting appeal on me, I cannot remember most of the game. Perhaps I too should dig it up. :P

My favorite part of Dantooine was solving the murder case. That was fun and required some thought. :P

Me too, I am going to buy both of them again and play them before TESV comes out.

I have a side question on the game. I tried reinstalling KOTOR II the other day but couldn't get it to work on my PC that uses Vista. Apparently I haven't played it since using XP on an older computer. Is there a compatibility mode on Vista that will work with it? (I should probably try the first KOTOR again to see if that's incompatible also.)

Anyway, it's a good series despite the rushed ending of KOTOR II.

Iran KoTOR 2 on Vista with no problem. Only Windows 7 Professional or above has compatibiliity mode, but it's only a virtual PC on XP OS. Have you set the launcher to run as administrator?

I don't quite like that because it's more of character pushing the observation by trying different dialogues rather than player deducing with different evidence.

I love Knights of the Old Republic. I love both of them, but I prefer the first one. In my opinion, Knights of the Old Republic is the best Star Wars game ever made and Knights of the Old Republic is the second best. I'm quite upset over the MMO being made instead of KotOR III, however, yes, Knights of the Old Republic is a good game.

Meh, could never get into it. That felt like a chore to play. Not interested in the sequel in the slightest.

DA2 on the other hand does sound interesting, i guess i've "dumbed down" :P

KOTOR is an awesome game. Great story. The second one isn't as good, but the first one was awesome.

I never thought anybody would ask if KotOR is a good game. It gets so much love and deserves it too. It's one of my favorites and is my second favorite original xbox game, second only to Morrowind. I put in about 8 playthroughs in the first and about 6 in the second. The second was worse imo but that's what happens when Obsidian touches things... :P

It is a great game. I do enjoy some of the stuff added by the second game even if it was overall unfinished and buggy. I sort of feel like the first game is a bit short but then again I guess that just depends on both your play style and what you consider a short game. It is highly enjoyable game though.

Is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic a good game?

YES ! .... Except for overpowered lightning attacks and some weird turns in the quest-line if you don't particularly like monarchy....
Spoiler
When I off-handedly suggested that the princess on some planet might be a bit naive or something like that, and chose to help some other people to get to her, she didn't want to talk to me when I reached her throne room - I was forced to kill her, which made me the bad guy for the rest of the game

If you've played Mass Effect, its very comparable, except the combat isn't as interactive and your character doesn't have voice acting, but everyone else does. Its a very good game. I enjoyed it more than Mass Effect in fact.

Yes both KOTOR 1 and 2 are really great games, get both of them.

When people say that KOTOR 2 isn't as good, that basically means the end of the game is rushed, and the beginning is too drawn out, the rest of the game is awesome.

:o Blasphemy! KotOR 2 was destroyed by Lucasarts forcing it out a year early, and frankly I prefer NV to FO3.

It's just when they try to come up with their own games that they fall flat on their collective face *looks at Alpha Protocol*

Yes, you ought to play it, at least for the character interaction.
