Star Wars Light Saber

Yeah, except cigarettes don't cause blindness and skin burning/fire nearly as easily.

AHA!
We don't know if they contribute to spontaneous human combustion. In which case, yeah they do.

Just about anything can give you cancer these days. (including medical equipment)

And i don't think it "burns" through skin, i mean if it does it prolly takes about 5 minutes to penetrate/cut off your arm.

It's 1000 times stronger than direct sunlight, imagine a bad sunburn, only 1000 times as intenste. That laser will light you on fire in seconds.

I believe I said cancer.

So even if it sets you on fire, as long as you don't get cancer before that, you're ok with using it?

And then if you live you have cancer, its pretty much designed to kill someone. Or atleast [censored] their life up as much as possible.

Talk about a cancer stick! Seriously this thing should not exist. Anyone trying to get their Star Wars fix will just end up killing themselves and seriously injuring or killing everyone in the vicinity.

Also, if you're going to make a light saber, a pure laser is not the way to go. You need a way to create a localized beam of superheated plasma and we just don't have the technology for that yet.

Yeah, but it's all good if you're cosplaying a Sith.

You can't chain-cast lightning bolt while blind though. Well, you need to know where to aim.

yeah..........duh? thats why obi wan was training luke with that blast helmet on. a real force user doesnt need his eyesight.

im gonna buy two so i can dual wield. if i get some more money i might get a couple for my niece and nephew for christmas. :)

this actually brings a tear to my eye. ive always wanted a directed energy weapon since i was a kid and watched star trek. im kind of surprised they dont have one shaped like a phaser as well. particularly the star trek motion pic ear phasers. the next gen ones look stupid.

You could tape two together, end-to-end. Paint your grill red, and be Darth Maul!
Do some backflips and set your neighbor's dog on fire.

I wouldn't be pointing it at myself. I just don't think that it poses any risk to the user if he handles it properly

It should be interesting hearing about your demise :P.

Oh, and Jim, the beam it puts out is 1000 times more powerful than the sun. If it's in your vicinity, it'll burn you. And there's no way to handle it properly without looking at it, and you CAN'T look at it if you value your eyes.

That's 1000 times more powerful than the sunlight you experience when stepping outside, actually, not the sun. It comes with special goggles when you order it, as you can see in the link I provided.

If you could fit those goggle lenses into a Darth Vader helmet, or Riddike-style goggles, you'd be the coolest.

And if you stay outside in the sunlight for an hour unprotected, you'll get sunburned. Just imagine how much worse it is 1000 times stronger.

And if you read, you'd see that the goggles provided are good for 1/4 of a second of accidentally glimpsing at the light. Not looking at it.

It's a concentrated beam, it doesn't spread out. They could hardly legally sell it to the public if it was as dangerous as you make it out to be, I swear you make it sound like the next Manhattan Project .

Why is this being called a lightsaber? Just the handle? I mean, it's not a solid blade of energy, just a strong laser beam.

Well, at least we'll know who it is the next time we hear about someone setting themselves on fire pretending they were a Jedi/Sith.

It's a concentrated beam, it doesn't spread out. They could hardly legally sell it to the public if it was as dangerous as you make it out to be, I swear you make it sound like the next Manhattan Project .

What would be stopping them from selling it to the public even if it was too dangerous? It's not like firearms or tobacco where there are laws stating ages, it's a laser, and as far as I know there is no law prevent sales of lasers to the general public.

There are serious after-effects of this. Aside from being burned, I'd say being PERMANENTLY BLINDED would make it pretty damn dangerous. You can say the goggles protect the user. That's all they protect, the user. Not others a person might aim the laser at, with intent to burn/blind.

Really, some of you sound like a bunch of worried mothers. If people hurt themselves, so be it, but I think that the laser can be handled reasonably and safely.
