I don't like this. You could cause serious harm to others, and they would never know who did it. Being permanently blinded because people in some apartment building a few blocks away decided to aim the laser at people down on the street doesn't seem like an appealing proposition. Especially with the trend of groups of youth. Just imagine a group of kids driving around, just firing the laser at pedestrians and driving off.
Another thing to consider is how easy it would be to track the laser.
Victim gives description of weapon, witnesses confirm victims testimony. Police narrow search down to a "laser", a small amount of research into various publicly available lasers would lead the police to this or similar products -- they could then narrow the search down again by seeing who bought the product from the website in a certain radius of the initial laser attack. This would give a list of possible suspects (I doubt it would be saturated at any rate).
Well it makes sense to me
The only problem is, without a description of the perpetrators appearance or what he/she was driving, it would be hard to gather evidence. The lack of finger print evidence found on bullets that can be linked to a certain weapon through ballistics would be enough, but laser beams don't have finger prints. Having your finger prints on the actual laser (handle?) wouldn't be enough either -- since the person might simply be an owner of a laser and without adequate evidence that he/she was in the area at the time of the attack, or a sworn testimony that they where seen by a witness, or CCTV/Photo evidence they where there -- It just isn't enough for a conviction.
Correct me as you wish. I imagine I'm wrong on a lot of counts but it makes sense to me
Either way I cant wait to see the crazy list of bi-laws and regulations that are bound to be released in regards to this product.
