Leading experts now claim catscans more dangerous than lightsabers.

I was talking about the tech in my country, those new technologies you use in your hospitals have much lower radiation.

Or perhaps you want to be blinded for life? How does that sound.

That is concerning indeed.

So... your hospitals are more dangerous than random lightsabers cutting through crowds of people?

"Doctor we can't do the surgery today. We don't have any more anesthesia."
"Get me my mallet."
"Wouldn't that be dangerous?"
"I SAID GET ME MY MALLET!"

The trouble is that the only people who would be interested in such a thing probably don't have the capacity to use it intelligently.

I'm offended.

Come on, guys. This is the internet. Everyone knows that if you blind yourself, you can easily get your eyesight back by uploading the event to Youtube! It's common knowledge. :P

How can you all not be excited about a weapon like this? I mean, come on! Star Wars. Burning. Lasers. How can people who use the Internet not like the combination? It's like peanut butter, chocolate, and six.

I never really liked starwars. Nor found Lasers! to be that exciting.

Uhh its... sort of like what if it drops and its on and goes spiraling out of control creating a death light show as its beam goes spinning around until it stops. Yea, not something you should have unless you have it for a purpose, are trained in it, and are not a [censored] dumb ass. Hence the training, and of course regulated. For all intents and purposes it may as well be a military grade weapon.

Edit
It is a laser, and not a contained thing. That means it just goes on unless they found a way to limit that, but then it could easily be modified to re extend the range to several miles. And if your really good you might be able to take away the visible light. You would have an instant death sniping weapon that no one would ever see and would be untraceable. Now put this in the hands of your average idiot.

You know, this could be a great military weapon. Render the light invisible and make it so each pull of hte trigger is a quick flash and we could have a great untraceable sniper.

The military should attach these to the front of their rifles, like bayonets. It could be used for. . .I guess setting the enemy ablaze and blinding them.

This could be a big step for weapons, if the military takes this seriously and works to develop weapons grade lasers, we could be one step closer to Star Wars in no time.

It looks cool, but it shouldn't be available the public, and the price, wow. A 520mw laser can cost over $1000, 135 pounds is a steal.

I don't see how this is more dangerous then lets say firecrackers.

Firecrackers can't give you cancer.

im skeptical if it is even real of if thats a hoax website. i dont even want to know how many batteries that would go through if it is real.

if indeed it is real, than i want one. technology must advance if our species it to ever get off of our collective asses and start conquering other worlds.

Believe it or not. There are rumors they do use invisible laser based devices for assassinations. It's not like the technology is super secret even back in the day. Although that is all rumor and urban legend, but if I was running an intelligence agency and needed to assassinate someone without leaving much evidence I would definitely choose that method.

i would love to have one of these. lasers dont give you cancer. they operate in the infrared spectrum and although their are lasers that operate in the UV spectrum i would be amazed if they were dumb enough to make one like that.

as long as they have the "ages 3 and up" sticker on these im perfectly fine with them being sold to the public.

You have to keep in mind also, that many technologies we see are far behind what is currently in secret development. They were building a giant laser mounted airplane to zap missiles from the air a few years ago. One can only imagine the various laser applications that are really out there. It'd be hard to prove an assassination by laser, if the dude just caught fire and burned to death. Or you could set a drug lord's mansion ablaze from a mountaintop.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's true. It was kind of just thrown in there with no explanation or evidence, seems like the writer of the article just wanted to make it sound more dangerous.

When that laser can burn through flesh and permanently blind you just from looking at it for more than a second, I'm willing to believe it can give you cancer in some form.

Laser - Acronym for

Light
Amplification through
Stimulated
Emission of
Radiation

Radiation is linked to cancer.
That is how they arrived at their "it causes cancer" claim.

Even if it wasn't entirely accurate, there would be a sticker on it stating that the State of California recognizes it as a carcinogen. Something like that. Most packages for fishing lures say this.

i found a link to the actual webpage. im sick of newsites talkign about websites and not bothering to link to them...thats just freaking annoying.

this appears to be a laser that uses the UV range so i was wrong. they are dumb enough to use UV. im not an expert so im assuming that the infrareds arent as powerful as the UV lasers. better make those stickers "ages six and up"

ifrared laser do NOT cause cancer. there is a distinction between the two.

FYI guys, this laser is totally real. I took the liberty of looking it up, and it is completely available and on sale on a website. It also has a 7 line disclaimer in size 12 yellow font about how dangerous it is :P.

I'm not going to link it, but it's totally real.

Oh, and it might interest you all to know that the eye protection goggles shipped with the laser protect your eyes for a 1/4 second accidental glimpse of the laser.

There are lots of things that use radiation that are fine if handled properly, I'd bet this laser has less of a chance of causing cancer than cigarettes.

Yeah, except cigarettes don't cause blindness and skin burning/fire nearly as easily.
