Still, I'll own up to the fact that I've done awesome Zergling rushes vs Terran on Scrap Station. The guy always does the typical ramp-blocking thing, so I have an Overlord sitting near the back of his base the whole time, and I build a Nydus Worm. I have the Overlord go to the back tip of his base behind his mineral line and poop creep all over, then lay another Nydus Worm. Suffice to say, they never expect it. I love turning on only my opponent's vision in replays, because you notice about an inch of creep, then BAM, twenty Zerglings destroying your SCVs. I always chuckle when I do that.

Downloaded the beta this morning (after 3 days waiting for my code from Amazon) but couldn't play until now.

Played 1 match against the computer. Me Terran, them Protoss. Took me an hour, researched everything. Destroyed them with 3 consecutive nukes and a Battlecruiser. I like having Ghost and Battlecruiser Commanders.

Played a second match against the computer. Both Terran. Took me 8 minutes. Decided to try Marine rushing. 3 Barracks with the double unit production add-on.

@Suffca: you said your name was Suffca.suffca? How? When I tried Crow.crow it wouldn't let me. Then I went to Kazae.crow and it worked. I probably won't play against other people because I'm a fraidy cat.

Just play with friends on 1v1 Random. That's a really good way to build game knowledge and skills. It lets you understand the tactics and units of all races, so that when you play against them you know what their units a capable of and what their strategies will be, in addition to knowing what you yourself should do.

When I tried Crow.crow it said something about needing to make a unique combination.

Maybe someone had it already.
Or "Crow" just isn't unique enough? :P

I thought the .name was the part that needs to be unique, not the character name.

I've been reading a lot of stuff about subscription fees for countries like Russia, and south america.

I was under the impression that this game was going to be free, just like Starcraft 1. Can anyone clarify this for me?

I read the whole article, and from my understanding these people have to pay to get the game, then they only get to play it for 60 days, at which point they must pay a monthly subscription OR they can pay 50 bucks EXTRA to have the game for the rest of their lives.

That's just BS. Complete [censored] BS. Now a days we buy the disc so we can then buy the game.

[censored] this world. Gaming is going down the [censored] drain.

Oh and I'm canceling my pre-order because of this. [censored] SC2, not buying it anymore. This practice is complete [censored] BS. I will not support it in any way, shape or form.

I'm a canadian and i'm paying 100$ for the special edition. I think this whole subscription fee is stupid, and makes little sense. The buyout price seems more reasonable but still more expensive than north american pricing. (you start by paying 30$ then you pay an additional 60$ if you're not from the us or canada).

I wonder why the discrimination?

Because they can get away with it.

They can successfully [censored] the [censored] out of their customers, and the customers will just lap it up like little brain washed slaves.

I'm honestly surprised they aren't doing this in the USA and Europe. People WOULD buy it, and lap up the subscription fees like good little slaves.

Ughhh... What the [censored] is wrong with gaming now a days???

I really really want to cancel my pre-order. I don't know if I can, though, the Beta is just too much fun. And the SP campaign will be jaw-dropping, no doubt. I might still get it, being that we are not in a region where we have to pay subscriptions. Still, the fact that Blizzard is doing this has my panties all in a bunch. :stare:

They won't get away with it. People in these countries will call them out for it and some sort of change will have to be made. Also, they're not forced to buy the game, but can either pay a final price or pay a subscription fee. 2 months of one game is a lot of time, after all. I don't think i've even played Morrowind or Oblivion for 2 months without getting the slightest bit bored of it.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that its some sort of new marketing strategy that makes the owner feel like they're renting the game for 2 months, and if they're really hardcoe about it, or still haven't made up their mind, they can choose to do buy it or pay the subscription fee (which is still undecided.)

After all, im paying 70$ more dollars than the guy in russia or south america on day one.

I'm gonna go find some russian websites and find out their feedback on this! :bolt:

Well they can get it for $60, the downside is that it's digital.
And the subscription fee option would be just dumb since you'll probably pay the game off within 3 or 4 months.

But will you play the game for 4 months? I've always found myself coming back to starcraft and diablo, and I usually find myself shelling out the additional 40$ because i can never find my original discs. Thank god you can digitally download your games through battle.net now.

A little late though. I have 3 copies of Starcraft and 2 of Diablo 2. :glare:

But yeah, its replaying a game at a later time which is going to kill the buyer. Also, i think by saying, "pay us 30$ so you don't have to buy the game but only rent it" is really saying a lot of nothing about Starcraft 2. They're basically saying that their game may not exactly be worthy of us fully purchasing it.

Man, something else just came to mind. What happens when they release the zerg campaign and the protoss one? If you look at it like this, I feel like i'm the one getting ripped off, as they're going to only have to pay 30$ each time where i'm paying full price.

I'll probably play SC2 for a while and then come back later to play some custom matches. I mean there are mods and new maps that can be made.

I'm huge on map making. Sadly, I never got into warcraft III so a lot has changed and I don't think i'll be able to catch up.

Ever played the games golems? After the Star Edit modded editor (star edit emerald) was released (making it possible to stack things anywhere, and make square tiles) I was the first to customize golemz and release it using these new aspects. I renamed it golem revelation. I became pretty popular and started running a clan in US.WEST (even though i'm in the east...) We had like 40 active members, and had a cool website and everything.

At the time, I loved e-drama and ended up destroying my clan over it. After that, I kinda gave on starcraft online and started making maps for my own personal use...

I had this sweet Morrowind map I made, where you were a high templar, and you would gain items (or units) which would be your shield and sword. There was a designated area in the corner of the map where you go to dungeon dive. Depending on what cave you entered, different things would spawn. So essentially it was the same layout, but just different things. Silt Striders were overlords, and you'd watch as they took you from one town to the next. Carriers were boats, and they'd travel over the water, giving the illusion that they were actually in it...

I don't think I could reproduce something like that in the SC2 galaxy editor though. It was 75% knowledge and 25% imagination. :P

That is the [censored] coolest thing ever.

You have to make a same type of map for SC2

How does a guy get over 600 vespene gas, from two geysers, within 10 minutes? The guy had 2 Thors and another on the way so fast.

Very easily? One geyser with 3 workers on it brings in about 100 gas a minute, IIRC.

Thanks. :)

Its very easy for me to do in Starcraft 1. Its almost logical thinking, like someone who knows their way around C+ or scripting. The game was set around a condition and action system.

My biggest issue with the Starcraft 2 is the way things are worded. For instance, something like the world "always" which is a condition has now been replaced with "at the begging of the game."

Theres A LOT of conditions, and there are five times as many actions. I'm way too busy with my real job to learn triggers 101 for Starcraft 2. :P

The other thing that isn't so simple is the character editing. You can do some amazing things, like add abilities to different units, animations, icons and all, but its embedded in the messiest way. It took me nearly half an hour to add the Raven's hunter seeker missles to a marine. Man...it should be easier than that.

Until someone makes some more user friendly UI for legacy users, i'm not going to use the map editor. As of now too, Blizzard doesn't "support it."

So theres no use right now. :P
