Starlight Drive-in Sign

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 11:56 am

Just thought I'd share.

So I've started dabbling wiring in my Starlight Drive-in settlement. I made a logo for the town, a Mario Star with animated light beams (Starlight.. get-it?). Then I decided I needed to advertise it's population...

Note: in some of the pictures I missed wiring one light in the first P, corrected it after and retook some screenshots, but not all of them.

Hey that's awesome!! I tried messing with those lights and gave up so I know what a pain in the butt it can be to get them to work right.

Damn.

The floorboards in the control room not lining up ruins it just a tiny bit.

They were lined up at first, while I was correcting some of the wiring I accidentally "stored" the floor instead of the wire... I guess I didn't put it back right. :(

... I'll have to fix it tomorrow.

Very nicely done! I made an animated pixel display in the same place:

I hope others add what pictures they made here.

That's pretty cool. Yeah I'd love to see what other people have done, with timers/triggers.

Hahaha.. That's really awesome! :)

I have always wanted to do something creative with Starligt Drive in but never could come up with a good idea.

A question, looks like you have platforms below the lights? You should be able to remove those? To make it look like the ligghts really are attached to the wall instead?

From a Wastelander point of view, I question broadcasting your population number. From a player point of view, I love the idea.

I wasn't sure if I was finished or not, it was getting kinda late so I stopped and took a few pics. I was toying with the idea of giving the star eyes like the mario bro's star, and then using a timer to make him blink.

lol, yeah.. it wasn't really meant to be practical. Just started building a sign and thought, humm... I wonder if I can do this.. one thing lead to another... .. and 236 lights later... :P

Nice, I'll have to see what I can do with the lights after I finish building the huge lodge I'm working on attached to the screen.

looks great ^^ were you able to do it within the settlement limit?

or are things like this only possible by bypassing it?

apparently it's easy to lower that settlement limit by jus manually scrapping a bunch of stuff at the settlement; and by that i mean, jus haul in a load or two of random crap from the world, throw it on the ground and scrap it

No I hit the limit.

Although I might have been able to make the sign within the limit, if I removed my crops, and scrapped everything on the lot. I think the thing that made me hit the limit were the amount of generators I made, over 80 of the small generators. Here's a picture of the http://postimg.org/image/7crzp3esf/ of the electrical building.

The size limit has to do with how much stuff within the settlement the Engine has to render. Workshop variables MaxDraw & MaxTriangles (if I'm not mistaken). The glitch to increase your size limit is to drop items (I've only used weapons) on the ground, enter workshop mode, and store them. My guess is this reduces the maxdraw & maxtriangle numbers by the values associated with the items you've stored, while dropping them does not add to it.
