Every RPG made lately seems to be as far from reality as possible... I just wanted a more familiar setting with a mix of the fantastic. You could be an elf assassin prowling city rooftops/sewers under a cloak of invisibility. Or a redneck with a shotgun blasting weird creatures. Just think of the possibilities!
There is probably not a large market for fantasy/sci-fi set in a current location though.
I dunno... I think if done correctly, and by the right developer (The 3 B's spring to mind), a proper RPG or action RPG set in the present day or near future could really work. Gritty streets, warehouses and office buildings have shown in shooters that they can lend themselves wonderfully to level design, either open world or on rails. Personally, the juxtaposition of mundane with surreal would be a (relatively speaking) fresh setting that could presumably set it apart from the same-old competition. And I don't care how it happens, personally... Cyberpunk, steampunk, superhero, Stargate-like galactic travel, alternate dimensions or realities, witchcraft, whatever!
If you want Beth to make this you have to ask yourself "Do I want this game more than TES6 or FO4?" Because they wouldn't make two games at a time...
I
DO want this more than Fallout 4.
