Started Dead Money at level 1!

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 5:06 am

HI all, long time lurker but have decided to dive in and ask a question! bought dead money yesterday for ps3 and started playing last night but realised I had deleted all my saves so started at level 1 again, but did not really want to get a high level to start so began the dlc at level 1, will I be able to complete it or should I forget about it and come back at a higher level?

Well, techincally, you can complete Dead Money at lvl 1. It might be frustrating and really hard though. I do not recommend doing that, beacuse there are multiple speech checks you wont be able to pass and the frustration might spoil the fun and depth of DM.

Cheers, started last night and the first task was a pain in the rear due to speech checks. may reload a previous save and get a few levels higher first.

Theres also a number of locked doors and computers that need the respective skills to be quite high.

Even if they didn't stop you getting through the quests, you'd be missing out on a lot of loot.

with that in mind, are the parts of the game after which a DLC won't really make sense? ie are they mid-game DLCs, or towards-the-end game DLCs? If I've finished off Caesar, and massacred almost all the legion, would I be able to do a "go into Legion lands and help...." DLC?

Well, this is why I think all the dcls should avoid the factions. Maybe mention them, but not really have one.

The only one that worries me is the burned man one. Ceaser can t be in it, and it would have to take place way in AZ. I d have to want to go there on my own will.

Dead money seems separate from all of it so you could complete it without affecting the main story line. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

I did a level 1 playthrough. It was interesting. At the end of the day though unless you barely or never use the vending machines as most did playing DM on their "main" character/s, and just manage with the items found in the environment it isn't all that bad since I bet on this character you'll use the VMs a lot. In which case chips are plenty.

Now if you bought and started playing Dead Money at level 1 as a first playthrough....that's going to be a frustrating mess.

Keep in mind while I played in hardcoe mode I just played on...Hard? Not the max difficulty. I find having the max difficulty on for New Vegas useless because it causes enemies to become utter bullet sponges rather than the enemy AIs becomming even more smarter and tactical which means if they kill you it's because you made a mistake not because they suddenly gained 200 more Hp and you ran out of bullets.

HI, I have already played it through once, downloaded the dlc and then when I went to load my saved game(s) I realised I had deleted all my saves etc as I was upgrading my ps3 hdd and the backup drive I used was pretty small, me being an idiot suppose I will learn.

If playing on hardcoe with a level 1 character, the mist is going to kill you quicker as well as the normal slow life damage just being there.

It's a known bug that seems to be related to not finishing the ED-E My Love quest before starting Dead Money. When you go to Primm to pick ED-E up after finishing, he'll be hostile, and usually kills Johnston Nash and anyone else inside the Mojave Express office. To work around it, you have to get close enough to him to open dialog and recruit him before he starts his rampage, which is very tricky. I've never experienced this bug, but quite a few people have.

probably about half way through now and its been a struggle being at Lv3 now!! but will carry on and next time I replay will wait for a higher level to complete it.

another question while i'm here how do you do the spoiler bit? in your posts, where you click and it shows the text so it does not ruin peoples experience etc.

To post as a spoiler you use [spoiler] tags, with the one at the end having a / right after the [. Alternatively there's an option for it in the 'Other styles' tab above the text box.

I always make sure my characters are at least mid-level before doing Dead Money so that I have certain skills where I want them and certain perks selected, but a low-level run should be eminently feasible provided you watch your health carefully and avoid the Cloud as much as possible.

I do not recommend a low-level hardcoe run, since you will take constant damage just for being there and will not really have the HP pool to cover it, however if you wish to try this I very strongly recommend getting the Old World Gourmet perk prior to going in so that you have a wide range of healing aids available.

Yes. I know you CAN do DM at earlier levels but if you want to get the most out of it, you should really wait till at least your speech and LP are close to 100. Also a 7 perception helps too.

Yeah.. I totally started it at level one. It wasn't a big deal.. I played with hardcoe on/Very Easy difficulty. . It was a little tough at first but once you hit level 5..(which was extremely fast.) It became pretty normal.

Started at level 1, Took me 15 hours to complete and I came out at level 12.. With all the gold. Long walk back to the hotel room to stash my gear. The character I went through with was a stealth character, High perc, agi and int./ low, low strength and endurance. 3 was the magic number there. You really don't need to carry anything about but food, water and one main weapon.. just stash anything you want to keep for your long walk home.

I think the hardest part was getting to the bunker to start dead money without getting killed or accidentally raising a level. (I really wanted to start at level one just to see what level I'd come out as.)

Of course having all that gold and being able to trade for anything your little heart desires made the rest of the game a little too easy. Even with difficulty turned back up to normal... but that was kind of the point of getting all the gold anyway.

I started a new game of New Vegas a couple of weeks ago. I got bought Dead Money and I was eager to play something new. I took the normal route through the early part of the game until I naturally ended up at the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker. I was at level 10 by the time I got there and started Dead Money. It wasn't bad at all. I also found Dead Money to be nowhere near as depressing and dull as the DLC from Fallout 3. I was able to complete Dead Money in only a few days.

It's doable I'm almost done I like starting out in dlc, the dlc from fo3 where great alternative ways to enter the waste. I always play them through with my main character then make a new one for the dlc and walk them there straight away role playing from the dlc into wastes insted of the otherway round is great fun. Like ppl mentioned tho play through first at high level so you know what your doing and don't spoil or miss stuff. Everyone should try this as there's 'no' way to just teleporting your self unless ur on pc you have to have the deniability and fortitude to set up for own game and go with it ignoring certain quest ect bit it's rewarding and different. Back to deadmoney I found killing all the scorpions in the gorge with a bat to get to damn dlc was like the hardest bit...should have picked a better route, sneaking through the deathclaw to get to vegas at level 1 is easer lol.
