Starting as a child?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:42 am

In the new update it says that "Dovahkiin" means dragon child and they also mentioned a child going up to the greybeards. Although it sounds like they are talking about tiber septim as the kid, but it is a little confusing the way he put it.

“In the lore, Tiber Septim was the first main emperor. He could shout. His way of the Voice was unmatched,” Howard explains. “He is the original guy who walks the seven thousand steps and talks to the Greybeards. And the idea is, at that time, that they were so powerful they had to have all the villages flee for miles. This little kid is walking up this snowy mountain, and all these people are packed up and they’re walking down and away. Because they know the kid is going up to talk to these guys, and when they talk there’s going to be avalanches.”

“Like the word ‘dovahkiin.’ ‘Dova’ means dragon. ‘Kiin’ means child.

So they may just be replacing the word child for born in the translation but what do you think about starting out as a child, climbing the 7000 stairs to the greybeards and then winding up in prison as an advlt?

That would work, so long as you don't stay as a child for long - just that one scene would be ok. Might even be good.

Maybe starting out as a child and climbing the stairs to the greybeards, then choosing skills and birthsigns etc (however thats going to work without having classes) would be part of their training?

No.

They even said, something along the lines of "Now, a prisoner is soon to find out that he may be the last dragonborn left". Our character doesn't know he's the dovahkiin until he's imprisoned/released.

I didn't think it was very confusing. It seemed pretty obvious to me that the child climbing the stairs was Tiber Septim. No confusion there for me.

Since you will be starting out as a prisoner, I seriously doubt you will also be starting as a child. Unless of course you're tied up to the Wheel of Pain and manage to escape from it or something.

"Revelation 21:6 -"
"Sorry, i need to meet these guys on top of a mountain at four."

hehe, joshing you.
I'd like the idea, if for the purpose of showing your character's potent "choices" that he/she will make before meeting them.

It means child by itself, but in the context of Dovahkiin it means born. That is what they were talking about with the language being simple and very context sensitive. I also don't think the game should start you off as a child because there are a lot of people who do no want to be forced into the mindset of the main quest. I might not mind playing as Tiber Septim during his march to the grey beards. That could be an interesting intro to the game with you controlling Tiber Septim during at various points after which it kinda pans out and you are in prison being told the tale by the guy in the cell next to you.

Yea, as in you were once a child. Dovahkiin, DragonBORN, or DragonCHILD. Doesn't mean you will be one in the game.

I'm pretty sure they mean Tiber Septim, however, it would be cool if, before you actually started as your character, you played as Septim walking up the steps, and watching all the people running past you. Would be a pretty cool historical moment to experience. I dunno about your character starting as a child, though.

that's a cool idea, maybe not playing it but a video of tiber septim walking up the mountain and then winding up in prison. They could make it really epic like right before it cuts away he says a dragon shout and then it goes to the guy in jail saying that in front of you!

^This.

Yeah, I think they were with talking about Tiber or they are just saying that this person is one of the Dragonborn in general.

I don't think you would be a child. After all, it has been confirmed you will be in prison. Also, some people may not want to do or be forced into the Main Quest.

"The prophecy depicted on Alduin’s Wall is dire, but it is not without hope. A single individual, gifted with the same incredible powers held by the dragons themselves, may rise to fight against Alduin and assure the world’s survival. The Akaviri armor worn by the Blades in this image originates from another continent beyond Tamriel. The Blades shown in the image bow before the Dragonborn. They’ve protected the line of the Dragonborn for generations in anticipation of this moment, when a Dragonborn would rise to face Alduin upon his return. 200 years ago, with the closing of the Oblivion gates, the line of Dragonborn heirs was lost with the last of the Septims. As Skyrim begins, a lone prisoner begins to learn that he may hold a similar power… "

Not a chance, you'll start as an advlt prisoner and your past is left a mystery for you to make up on your own.
