I'm assuming by "Orc or Breton" you mean "warrior or mage." And because I'm assuming that, I will say: It depends.
Mages require even more premeditation that any other DiD character, simply because of how feeble they tend to be. Sure, with plenty of planning and the proper environment, you're basically invincible, but God forbid you are taken by surprise. My High Elf mage died on the quest where you're getting Nettlebane from the Hagraven witch simply because I hadn't come across a Hagraven yet and she [censored] me with fireballs.
Warrior types, however, allow you to play mostly the way you normally would, albeit with a healthier dosage of caution. You can just barrel through things and be fine most of the time. But, inversely, the warrior is more likely than a mage to lose in ideal, perfect situations than a mage. Not likely, but you'll probably eventually just come across something that can kick your ass and there'll be nothing you can do about it.
I'd say mage, just because I enjoy the amount of work that goes along with it. Not to mention, tiptoeing around like a pansy really draws out the laughably short College of Winterhold questline.
