Starting morrowind for the first time, so what mods?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 8:39 am

Hey guys! in the desperate waiting for beth to fix skyrim i was thinking of getting morrowind 'since i heard it suppose to be the best in the series
And since its a kinda old game then i gues there is tons of mods

So im asking you guys for this, is there any ''critical mods'' for example as the unofficial patch for oblivion, that fix verius bugs that beth dint feel of doing,
also graphic overhauls, i want the game to be as nice as possible.

Any tip is helpful, and link to if you have the time ;O

Morrowind doesn't need mods. The vanilla game is perfect.

Get the graphics extender if you really care about that stuff. 2002 graphics don't really bother me.

The original UI is really good, so it's never needed fixing. But the Code Patch does make a few tweaks to simplify a few little things.

This will link you to both the essential patches... and tons more info. :)

To be honest, you should not get any mods if you play for the first time D:

Pfft. It was the graphics that caused me to stop playing the first time. :meh: But I will say that one should not get anything other than the MCP and maybe the UMP as well as whatever graphic replacers catches one's eye (including MGE) until one has had a chance to explore the world awhile and then decide what else they would like to add in. :)

If you like looking at those hideous vanilla bodies, maybe. The only time I played completely vanilla was when I first installed the game. It was a looooong while before I came back to it after THAT.

And if I remember right, these do work with the Steam version, you'll just need to fix the timestamps on the Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon .esms.

I have to agree here. If there is one thing I didnt like, it was those hideous bodies. Even N64 game characters(like Jet Force Gemini) have better bodies than the original MW ones. haha

Aside from the bodies, the original MW has a certain charm to it that warrents your first play through being without mods. The code patch and the MW Script Patch(this is an ingenious thing that isnt mentioned much) and other simple fixes are a great thing to have though.
On thinking of a mod you could probably include on the first time through simply because it makes things more epic, that would be Darknuts greater dwemer ruins. It isnt a simple thing though to run through(like the original), so you might be best off just leaving it.

Beyond the user-developed patches, play for a few hours, and see if there's anything you wish were different in the game. Then check TES Nexus and PlanetElderScrolls to see if mods exist that do that.

For instance, if you want deeper, more dangerous tombs, there are mods that provide this. Or maybe you want a house to drop your goods in and keep around, safely? Plenty of those.

But I agree with the folks who say that you should try the game for a while without game-changing mods. Out of the box and patched, Morrowind is pretty damn remarkable, all by itself.
