Starting Skills

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2009 6:12 pm

Hello everyone, first of all I would like to apologize if this has already been discussed, but I have yet to see any info on it.

So, as we all know, there is no more picking skills when you create your character. Instead, you just use the skills you want to use, and using those skills will cause them to increase in rank. So if I want to be a pure mage, I will start using magic skills such as destruction, restoration, etc. But what if I want to be a pure warrior? Obviously I use a blade or axe, but does that mean I will still have access to the starting magic spells? For example, in Oblivion EVERYONE had minor heal and fireball, regardless of what your major skills were, and if you wanted access to other schools of magic you would have to pick those skills as your major skills.

But since that system is gone, and we can use any skill type we want right from the start, does that mean that we will ALWAYS have access to the starting spells for each magic school? In other words, technically, and from a role playing perspective, there will be no such thing as a "pure" warrior, or "pure" mage, because every character will know the basics in every skill class, correct?

Yes, everyone has starting skills with magic, even if you're a full on warrior. So if you decide later to try leveling those skills up you'll be able to do so.

Yea, i'm curious to see what spells we start with, if any. This might be tied to what race we select.

I am fairly sure that racial bonuses will still contribute to small bonuses to starting skills, they said that each races have their strengths and weaknesses and other than h/m/f boosts per race, small skill bonuses seems to be the only way to do that.

I'm quite positive this will be the case.

One of each school of magic? That's nice, I could never find myself a conjure spell low enough for me to use in Oblivion if it wasn't one of my major skill.
