Starting with our own execution?

Post » Sat Aug 14, 2010 5:03 pm

So its been confirmed that we start the game being lead to our execution, obviously we get out of it somehow. but how do you think we will? im thinking that the town will be attacked by a dragon and we'll get a chance to escape during the panic and confusion.
thoughts and opinions?

The towns leader suddens says that he saw you in a vision ... Nay, that would be totally stupid.

Dragon attack is good. Maybe you use some of your DragonBorn powers during the fight and the leader sees that you could be the one that saves them all and you are released. Maybe the rope broke. Maybe a Robin Hood like clan kills the executioner at the last second and helps you escape. Maybe you are thrown into the water and your hand rubs a lamp and a genie pops out and saves you and make you the new prince. ... Maybe this theme has been done before...

yer or maybe the guards are already aware of your fighting skill and ask you to deal with the dragon to save the town, in return for your freedom

Instead of the guards letting you go, probably the player character escapes in all the confusion. It would explain how we get our initial gear -- picking it up from dead guards. It will be interesting to see how much combat compared to simple escape is included in the opening scene.

That's for the player to decide. It's tradition.

An old man appear: Esbern. He says your ass is his.
The guards knows its a much worse fate than being executioned and deliver you to Esbern with an evil smile.
Because the old man has the force where you really don t wan t it to be in such a case.

They have already states that some kind of ethereal spirit or something, shows up and gets you out of it. I'm thinking a crazed amounts of weird ghost things flash about and people scream and run, then you pass out and wake up in Esbern's house.

I'd imagine the game doesn't tell you, just as you never found out why you were arrested in past games, you get to decide for youself the reason. Really, starting with you being brought to your execution isn't so different from starting with you in prison in premise when you think about it, as both beginnings imply you're accused of some form of crime and were arrested for it, the execution just makes it more serious because your punishment is death rather than just prison. I guess Bethesda decided that they wanted sometrhing with a little more impact to it.

I surely hope not.
Well modders will certainly change it if so.

Wow, stop being nieve. Especially when it comes to quest mods ADDED by modders, this is incredibly important. While it would of course be ideal to have noone be essential, it leads to an open dry game like New Vegas. Where if your doing a quest with someone, why play through the 30 minutes quest for your 300 exp reward, when you can just shoot them in the face and get it right now? Whereas if they are essential, they can still die in other specific scripted places, while living through the average radscorpion fight.

Well punishment by death is mostly more than gettng drunk and start a bar brawl wich I mostly invent for my characters ...

It would be pretty epic if you are just about to get your head chopped off, then all of a sudden an arrow gets lodged into the executioner. Esbern comes by and unties you.

Esbern of the Blades. Voiced by Max Von Sydow. He voiced the trailer too.

Esbern is one of the last of the Blades, and is voiced by Max von Sydow, including on the game's trailer. I like the idea of starting the game this way, if this is really what's planned for "Skyrim". It beats passively waiting in a prison cell.

[Guard, seeing dragon attack the town: "This is madness. Blasphemy."

Player character: "Madness? THIS IS SKYRIM!"

Well, maybe not.]

I think it will involve dragons and hopefully you are literally seconds from the executionary blow and a dragon attacks. Your character could then release a dragon shout that neither he or the guards knew he could do and it repels the dragon.Your character is then led away by guards and questioned as to how he did that and you are introduced to Esbern. Sound good?
