StarX Vanilla Vampires Revised

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:56 am

BIG NEWS! 07-27-2010: beta 2.6 is now available!

StarX has fixed a couple of lingering problems with this guy, and the new, improved version is now ready for prime time!

Get it here: http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/533-starx-vanilla-vampires-revised/

The updated ESP is also available here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16417

Thanks StarX (and Arkngt!)

Original thread follows below:

Greetings,

I know there is a ton of work being done on some extensive vampire mods, and I am sure they are going to be awesome... But in the meantime, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16417 is the one I'm using, and I just wanted to take a minute to give it a little appreciation. It doesn't appear that there's been an active thread for it in a while now, which is why I'm making this one. (And for clarity, this is not somewhere to troubleshoot the mod or say what your problem is with it.)

It is, however, a place to give it a little love! If you, like me, are running this mod and really like it, chime in! I'm sure StarX wouldn't mind hearing a little praise...

IMHO, what this thing does to vampirism in the game makes it so much more interesting, and fun! Regardless of what it may or may not do WRT the new vampire mods, this one really filled a gaping hole in vanilla OB, and I love it for that!

Thanks StarX!

Probably best to check out the info on Nexus for that (linked above)...
stability (does it cause CTDs)

No it does not cause CTDs, but all builds are unique and YMMV...
and compatiblity (FCOM :toughninja: )

compatibility patch for OOO/FCOM
It looks interesting

Heya Vegtabill,

Thanks for the heads up and the kind words, I really appreciate that. :foodndrink:

I still feel kinda bad for not completely finishing this mod, though it's probably playable enough as it is. I want to do some bugfixing on it in the future, but I lost most of the files. I seldom check Nexus, but I remember something about the Nexus file being incomplete.

So if anyone ever feels like reposting the Filefront file (which went down after a while) than please let me know so I can download it to check out any texture/mesh errors and do a bit of bug fixing. :)

Cheers,

StarX

No problem... it is a really fun mod, and with all the vampire talk around here lately, I though it deserved a dusting-off! And it is certainly playable! (though I admit, I love what it does to vampires in general, and can only speak to a limited extent about the quests... so far, anyway!)

I don't delete anything, so I should have the files. I'll take a look and see what I've got. If I have it all, I'll throw it up somewhere and PM you the link.

And thanks again for this, and all of your work! It is greatly appreciated!

I've used this mod on and off for a bit, it's definitely an interesting one. The only bug I really noticed was the one where it adds the 3 Vampire Races to the starting CharGen, messed with me being able to customize my Imperial. Other than that though it worked fine with the OOO compatibility patch.

Praise for StarX? No problem.
I discovered his vampires a year or so ago, played it 11 times, every time defeated the evil queen and wore her armor - gorgeous thing, even if it creates problem one you drop it on the floor (I just don't drop it :D).
StarX katanas are in fromnt of my sewersand help me a lot.
His vampire Hunter is still with Thoronir ATM but my last char will get it after she defeats the queen (again :D).
His vampire outfits I still have to find in the ayleid ruin.

I am very sorry he didn't releaze the new versions of the vampire mod.
I don't play without StarX's mods and wouldn't.
Thank you, StarX!

Well, I am actually trying to sort that out now... can you tell me what you're missing? I honestly don't know if I have them or not. I have seen the posts from people and the couple of screenshots on the Nexus... but I have not seen anything missing in my game, and I am using the same archive that's on the Nexus now. If someone can tell me what is supposed to be missing I'll be glad to check.

Some reports on TES seem to be faults on the user side, but I seem to remember that the one on FileFront was v. 1.1 and that it mainly fixed some missing meshes (and textures?). I probably have it on some backup DVD somewhere, but that's sort of a last resort as it would take me hours to find it. Anyway, isn't there some utility with which you can check that the resources that an esp points to are there? I seem to recall a utility that packages the needed resources for a mod automatically - couldn't that be used to check what's missing?

Wait... now that you mention it, Arkngt, shouldn't WB be able to do that? I installed this one way back at the beginning of this build, and I am pretty sure I used an OMOD. But wouldn't it be really easy to package it for BAIN and see what it reports? Man, if that's all I need to do, I will feel quite foolish...

EDIT: Ugh... I am not awake yet... not thinking clearly... need.... coffee... :dead:

I've got StarX too - love it, though I've never played through the questline. I also use StarX Vampire Deaths for maximum effect. :D (Apparently someone made an http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27421... I just found it, so I don't know if it's any good.)

I keep backups for all my mods; I've got a 206-MB 7-zip file that was last modified Dec 23 2008 - is this the Filefront version?

I really don't know. That sounds like the same one I have, but I am re-downloading now to double-check. The confusing part to me is that, after quite a few vampire dungeons and the LoD quest, I haven't seen anything wrong... nothing! No purple, no exclamation points... nothing at all. I was telling StarX that it really seems like my PC would have run into these missing meshes by now, but maybe not? I don't know... I had assumed I had a good version, but now I really don't know. I'll update this post when the download is done.

EDIT: OK, after a ridiculously long download (my office really, really needs to upgrade), I have the 7z from Nexus...

textures

That should be enough for comparison, anyway. If anyone has something they can compare this output to, that would be great!

Ah I remember this game was such a breath of fresh air, the "promo" video was great and the actual gameplay was fun, and unlike some recent mods it was fun not beign a vampire too and joining the order of virtuos blood. Too bad it doesnt get the love it deserves and I really hope StarX could maybe do a little bug fixing

Thanks for the nice words all! It's really good to know that people are still enjoying SVVR. :foodndrink:

At the moment I'm really to busy with building Senchal for Onra's heightmaps, but any reported missing meshes/textures in SVVR I'll eventually release a hotfix for. Though Vegtabills reports are very encouraging! :)

Thanks all and sorry for being a bit short, but I'm to tired to make a long post.

Cheers,

StarX

Well, all the thanks goes to you, man! And from what I've seen/read so far, Senchal is sizing up to be another huge accomplishment! :D

To everyone else out there, please help out if you can with this missing mesh mystery. If you know what is supposed to be missing, please let me know. Or, if you, like me, see no evidence of anything missing, that would probably be good to know as well. Could it be that people have been avoiding this mod because someone erroneously reported that something was missing? I am beginning to think so...

Googled a bit and it was TES4Files. Not sure how much this helps, but this is the error log I get from it when repacking the TES Nexus version of SVVR:

So those resources seem to be missing or have faulty paths.

May I ask that someone upoloads this Filefront version somewhere and post a link? Or at least the missing files?
You see, I would like to have that armor in fixed version.
I have StarX Vanilla Vampires Revised-16417 and it is 211,571 KB and it misses these things and best armor from this mod is wearable but not 100% finished.
Thanks

This is extremely helpful... and informative. Thank you, Arkngt. I'll have to get my hands on TES4Files. I'll dig into this and see if, by chance, it's a matter of faulty paths. If that's not it though, and the files really just aren't there, then I join Blade of Mercy in appealing to the community... someone has to have these somewhere... I mean, don't they?

Well, I took a look this moring, and it appears to be a combination of both: a few of the files are there, but have incorrect paths. These are, obvious as it may be, the ones in Arkngt's list that have the extra drive letter in the path:

"C:/Program/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data/textures/d:/starx modding/vampire overhaul/clean files/textures/najaknevrec/altmeri/swordmaster robes.dds""C:/Program/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data/textures/d:/starx modding/vampire overhaul/vampire armor/armors/textures/armor/starx/serentinfemaleoutfit01/serentinpauldronfemale01.dds""C:/Program/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data/textures/d:/starx modding/vampire overhaul/vampire armor/feral/iron/textures/armor/starx/black iron/f/greaves.dds"

The rest of them appear to truly be missing, at least as far as I can tell so far.

So again, anyone have these? It would be great to solve this...
