State of things in Morrowind modding

Post » Sat Dec 13, 2014 12:21 am

Well it has been several years since I modded or even played any video games because real life got in the way big time.

I though I was going to get back to modding a couple of years ago but it didn't work out.

Well things have shifted around & I actually have some time to game again ( not like the old days but some ) & maybe, just maybe I can mod a little.

I actually picked up skyrim last week & playing it made me want to play Morrowind again ... Skyrim is pretty fun & certainly nice to look at but feels pretty juvenile at time & the puzzles so far have been insultingly easy.

I fired up Morrowind last night & took a spin through part of DNGDR .... honestly I can't believe my wife didn't divorce me over the time I spent making DNGDR

I really want to finish DNGDR II but it's been long enough I'll have to re-learn some things

Modded Morrowind holds up stunningly well concidering it's advanced age.

I'll have to get up to speed on what has changed since I've been out of the loop. I've log in here from time to time but not enough to keep up with the scene .... I already saw that Planet Elders Scrolls has died ... & that Fliggerty is still going strong.

Well ...I made a typo on the header .. I can't edit the header or delete the post like every other forum on the web ... great!

Modded Morrowind will never die as long as there are computers left in the world to run the game.

Welcome back!

Just send a Report on your thread and ask a mod to fix the title. Which I already did, without you having to make the report.

Welcome back Darknut!

I don't know that there have been any enormous changes in the way modding occurs since you left. MWSE has been updated and is still under new development if you wanted to hook into that program. MGEXE has been updated (or released depending on how long it's been since you looked around). There are a lot of cool new things which are possible thanks to the Morrowind Code Patch (MCP). Tes3cmd is a new tool for both modders and players that has a wealth of features and capabilities which you might want to look into. OpenMW is coming along and with it OpenCS which will hopefully have added capabilities and features. I'm on my phone so it's way too hard to provide links for all of those. Maybe someone else can oblige.

And it's awesome to hear that you might be picking up DNGDR II again! So exciting!

just wondering, do you still actually get players for morrowind mods...?

such that aren't modders themselves especially :-)

http://mw.modhistory.com/home is the new place to look for all the mods. It has archived almost everything from PES and Elric.

The Nexus is still going strong too.

You might be interested in checking out the new http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1507969-morrowind-modding-showcases-2/. It's keeping the community interested in what's all out there, new and old.

TR is still coming along nicely, and the Code Patch has likely been updated a few times since you last installed. The Patch Project (MPP) is still evolving as usual, and there's a new version currently been worked on again.

OpenMW is getting close to version 1.0

edit: Ninjad. I see some of these have already been mentioned ;)

The degree fluctuates, but there are still new players coming to the mod forum asking how to use mods, etc.

We especially see an increase if Morrowind goes on sale on Steam.

There are many of us out there who don't use the CS but are still enjoying Morrowind. With all the thousands of mods out there and considering the main game hasn't been updated by Beth (breaking all mods) in the last couple of years, there is always something new to try out. And, that's not counting all the fabulous additions our current modding artists are still coming up with and updating every week.

For those of us who love the game to begin with, modded Morrowind is a virtual candy store that goes on forever.

Do try out the Modding Showcase that Pluto linked to above. You might see a lot of interesting things you didn't know existed or could exist. I know I do every week.

I just recently got back into Morrowind again. I honestly can't wait to run through it again then install TR and play with that. I was going to do a vanilla run, but that ended pretty quick... The game has aged pretty poorly. But it's nothing modding can't fix. I've forgotten soooo much about making mods and I'm looking forward to relearning some of it. I used to pick apart mod and tailor them, but lately I've been scared to for fear of really breaking something. Some people want Morrowind D in the Skyrim engine... I'd like Skyrim with the depth of the Morrowind engine. Or at least have that depth easily moddable into the newer engines.

So I guess my vanilla run turned into graphics, gcd and MCA run. Still close to vanilla with mostly cosmetic upgrades.
EDIT and welcome back Darknut!!

I don't know exactly when you were active, but good things too has happen in the modding community. The loss of PES and ElricM was a major blow to the community, but despite that other sites have emerged so the future looks good in my book.

Those sites (http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/forum/330-released-projects/, http://www.theassimilationlab.com/) cannot replace PES or ElricM, but it shows that the Morrowind Community still lives and flourish which reminds me about the new http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1504605-morrowind-modding-wiki/.

Welcome back!

Welcome back Darknut, glad to hear that you are back and looking to mod again.

I have nine of your mods installed in my Morrowind install, thanks for all you have given the Morrowind modding community and I look forward to playing DNGDR II one day

I was browsing through the CS last night ... def have to bone up on scripting & the CS in general ... used to be second nature

My last MW install is still intact ... looks like 2010'ish .... def modded to death .... I had forgot about some of the stuff I was working on. most of it I never even talked about .... I spent months messing with nifskope

One that I totally forgat about is Luggage from discworld .... it totally works I can't remember why I didn't release it.

Or did I release it? I honestly can't remember ... 2010 & 2011 are like a blur to me.

I must be gentle to the guy don't I. He has just return and it wouldn't be polite if I directed him to other *unfamiliar* sites other than BSF and GHF.

I remember a walking chest companion mod from quite a while ago, but I'm almost sure it was released by Antares and looked different.
