My stay at the Bannered Mane

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:35 pm

The room that I had rented (for 10 gold I might add) had a balcony looking over the tavern. This would have been quite nice but for the two fellows sitting, bold as brass, out there on my balcony making merry!

I asked them, politely, if they wouldn't mind leaving and the louts simply ignored me!

I then discovered that the balcony had no door...!

These two jackanapes plus the din from a blasted minstrel downstairs meant that I spent a most unsettling night.

I do not recommend this tavern to any fellow itinerants.

I recall my first character to marry sleeping in a tavern with no guest room doors. At the time I thought you had to sleep at home with your spouse to gain any benefit. Instead, “You awaken feeling your Lover’s Comfort.”

Grits: :o

The Bride: :whistling:

Vorstag: :tops:

I suspect there is no word for “privacy” in the Nordic language.

Yeah, I wish random NPCs couldn't just walk into your room. It's unsettling enough not having a door on half the rooms you rent and even when you do someone just strolls in and has a seat while you are getting into bed, and sometimes they are still there in the morning. Thought about trying to make a mod that would set all rentable rooms as off limits to NPCs, except followers but never got around to it.

It's still better than those horrible Oblivion Fighters Guild Porters who would stand next to your bed and stare at you all night long while you sleep. If you played a female character, that was especially creepy.

Oh, let me tell you a thing.

I've been using ghastley's Khajiit Hearthfires on some toons. You get to build a wagon, and eventually the carriage drivers of Skyrim rebuild the ruined house out by the western watchtower for you. So on my latest Khajiit, I was waiting (as usual....) for the courier to show up with Falk's letter. I get home after serious adventures in Arkngthamz with Katria, kill the Cyrodiil Wainwright's guild's thugs (again), walk in the house....

And the courier is IN THE HOUSE using the alchemy table. I literally shrieked aloud IRL. Husband probably thought he was going to have to call 911....

[Oh, and THEN he - the courier, not husband! - didn't leave for DAYS....]

Serethil, I love that mod! I like that random NPCs stop by for a rest on the porch, but the courier/alchemist indoors would have made me yelp, too! :o

Hee, having unwelcomed visitors....notably Olfrid the Orrible, or his aggressive son Idolaf ( he aint no 'laf' for sure and a stupid name too) make a good excuse for some role play scenarios....which the scripting oddly seems to match....like when he came in, sat next to Adella on the balcany in the BANNERED MARE, and started boasting. She stood up to throw him out...so he stood up and after five seconds he walks out. Adella follows to the door and slams them shut behind him.

That all happened as per.....I couldnt have written it better! This Xbox too mind! Only thing I hate is standing next to the bed to sleep and waking still stood next to the bed.....would a curling up in bed animation have killed the Devs? Lyds does it perfectly, but Adella can't :( Drinking in pubs also....Sinmir can raise a mug in the BM....Adella can't. Thing is this...when it comes to RP its the little things that make the difference.

Haha, yeah that made me laugh way more than it should have. If I remember correctly wasn't there a naked courier glitch awhile ago? That would have made it even better :D

And I'd forgotten all about that creepy Porter in Oblivion. He got on my nerves so much I had a mod that made him stop following me.

Gags always lose their humour when explained!

Buuuuut...here goes nothin!

Serethil....

TheCheshireKhajit (TCK) says What's the Bannered "MANE" and adds the :P emo to show hes(?) having a playful dig at the mis spelling.

Sooooo.......you take the literal stance that TCK didn't know what the INTENDED location was meant to be....ie. BM inn in Whiterun.

I pointed out that the :P emo indicated the humour......rather than any confusion over location

See

Heres a tip.....when dealing with difficult dry humoured Brits like me...never take anything literally :hugs:

Um. "Emo"? Sorry.... again, you lost me. I'm a very literal sort of person. If someone asks a question, I answer it if I know the answer.

Clearly hon :P

Ok...Emo = Emoticon.....that's the proper name for the little fun pics that convey the emotional intent of the writer

A more upto the minute version is called Emoji

The pic (Emo) follows the word or statement to which the intent applies.

Like this......Skyrim  Means I love Skyrim

I love being a smart ass :P Means Im poking fun at the statement and in this case therefore...myself

Serethil  means I think you 'Rock' thats a good thing :) (feeling happy)

Serethil :hugs: Thats a friendly emotional intent....:)

Heh heh, yes, comment was just Khajiit having a bit of fun with the title of the thread! No offense was meant. This one apologizes, sometimes Khajiit can be a jerk! :D

Buffy prefers the Winking Skeever in Solitude. The bard is wonderful and the room is nice - with a door. The problem though is that even though she closes the door before she goes to sleep, every time she stays there, she wakes up with the dungeon headsman - complete with giant axe on his back - sitting inside the room watching her! She's quite sure that if she placed a fire rune just inside the door before retiring that she'd end up in the dungeon herself. So in truth, her fave place to sleep is out in the wilderness under the stars where the only 'audience' she has is her precious mare.

I've always been partial to The Silver-blood Inn. The husband and wife bickering, the roaring fire, the bard singing beside the hearth. Feels like home!

Huh... I like the Bee & Barb, plenty of conversation and ...if my character is a Bard, then I get to listen to ....music that isn't being sung off key.... or what I pick isn't.

I like the Bee and Barb too, also Candlehearth Hall. Rooms with doors, decent Bards, and privacy.

Oh. I don't "see" those things.... sorry - I have that sort of stupidity disabled. Meaningless silliness. Stuff like that is generally (AFAICT) inserted in a post to derail the actual intent of said post. Again, sorry, it's not.... a meaningful part of posting for me, and in fact tends to obfuscate the actual intent of posts (which has always been the point of them, ain't?).

I AM a literal poster. If people are asking questions, I answer if I know the answer. If people are posting.... um.... well, hmmm. I'm not sure how to state that without pissing off 90% of the viable populace here. *sigh*

I don't use a forum like this one for personal fun and games (yes, I RP in the relevant thread, and it's really too bad there's not a dedicated forum for that). Sorry. I'm a pretty serious person IRL, and that does lop over into my forum persona. In a forum atmosphere, unless there's a specific "fun and games" or RP-dedicated forum, I really expect that people will post questions, answers, and logical input - without "emo" (whatever that is supposed to mean for whatever reason).

So - yeah. You lost me. And.... considering what I've just looked at on google.... I'll be happy to stay lost.

Now, I will enter the caveat that I like all of you, but that the stuff you get up to in posting tends to - um - leave me wondering what universe you're all in, since it's not the universe I personally inhabit. Whether that's a lack on my part or otherwise, I don't really know - and in general I don't really give a rat's patoot. But the things that you and others post.... well.... I just don't get it. It's.... so far out in some other reality, I'm just lost.

But you don't really have to worry about it, honestly. I'll respond as I see fit, and if some of you are laughing up your sleeves about things I post, okay - because I'm probably doing the same. No worries.

Fair enough......the only thing I would disagree on is that Emoticons are often used to derail posts. As I said the purpose of them is to convey the emotional intent behind a word or statement.

The internet does not of course allow you to display your body language or tone of voice directly. Whilst a clever turn of phrase may help to put things in context it is still limited.

Emoticons simply add an extra level of communications, and in some cases can speak volumes without words. Effective communications are the lifeblood of internet chat. Anything that aids that has to be good. I will concede that used improperly Emos can turn a serious point into a farce and over used arguably lose impact, but most here use them a lot for good reason.

So.......part of the very reason our posts don't appear to make logical sense ( apart from the fact that a very few people in this world really are braindead of course) to you will simply be because you can't see the contextual prompts of the Emoticons.

Well, Serethil, I hope that if nothing else I have aided your understanding about what and why things look as they do here.

:) um. In your language colon, end bracket. In mine....happy face !
