Stealth is broken

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 11:06 am

I don't know if this only happens too me but is pretty annoying when i try to sneak upon an enemy to deliver a melee assassination it detects me every time even from further distance,I mean come on i crouch as slowly as possible i have 10 agility and even the sneak perk at 2 stars. Also every sneak attack that i deliver atracts everyone there.Am I doing something wrong?(I EVEN TRIED THE VERY EASY DIFICULTY LEVEL)Any ideas?

I think that is how stealth is supposed to work which is more realistic, in real life you cant just walk up and stab people to death.

That's not realistic at all. If you're quiet you can easily sneak up behind someone. Assassins and special forces have been using garrotes to sneak up and strangle the enemy for over a century.

Are you trying to sneak while you have a companion? They could be aware of them rather than you.

I thinked about that too so i got no companion but they still detect me easy and melee stealth kills seems impossible

I thought the whole idea of the sandman perk was to kill someone while they slept which to me should negate that characters perception skill. That stands in the realm of reality, unless all the raiders in F4 are light sleepers.

The heavier your equipment, the more noise you make. The faster you move, the more noise you make and the easier you are to spot.

As it's using the same engine from Skyrim, the stealth works similarly - but noticeably more difficult due to how hard silenced weapons are to obtain and the abundance of light sources and transparent obstructions. In Skyrim, too, you have real trouble getting to melee people until you've spec'ed into Rank 2 Stealth.

Wouldn't you be in a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of mutants, robots, ominous and/or hostile organizations, and other people out to get you every moment of your life?

I have a shadowed combat armor and a stealth-bladed knife and have been stabbing skull enemies in the neck successfully for hours :hehe: There are even kill animation when you kill someone with a melee power attack.

Anyone who has been sleeping has gotten up as i approached though. Not that it did them any good

In over thirty hours of gameplay I've come across only two enemies who were asleep. The perk seems only useful for killing civilians, who don't wear armor and are low enough level anyway that you don't need any sort of bonus.

It seems like a neat perk on paper, but the game provides nearly zero opportunity for it to become relevant.

Try the "Blitz" perk. The melee distance in V.A.T.S is increased. Sorry for my pathetic english.

Honestly yeah i think stealth is broken too.

Was trying to sneak up into a sniper position and the guy saw me from like, 3 bus lengths away.

It's very hard to sneak until you get the fourth level. The difference between "running" and walking is huge in terms of detection. You have to switch to walking if you don't have the third perk. You'll also want your gear to be as light as possible, getting muffled or light leather armor would probably help. You have to be very patient before the fourth level.

As for the sandman perk I'm more interested in the up to 50% increase in stealth damage from silenced weapons. Once you get the 3rd level in gunsmithing you can silence your 10mil and just unload on people. If you have shadowed and muffled gear they can take quite a while to actually detect you. It also depends on the enemy. Robots have high perception they spot you really quick. Ghouls svck at perception, if you aren't moving you can sit practically right in front of them. As long as you don't move too much they can't find you. And just because it has switched to caution doesn't mean you can't still sneak attack, unless something else is also attacking them (ally or not). It depends on how close they are to finding you and possibly whether they are facing you I have to test that a bit more.

That's probably your problem. Line of sight is a big issue so sneaking slowly will eventually be a problem. Try a couple things: 1) Use "muffled" gear. 2) Increase your sneak rank to 4 so you can run and sneak. 3) Get the perk that closes the gap quickly. 4) Look for the chinese ops magazines. These increase your ability to sneak.

Honestly, they more or less fixed sneak from being the easy gimme it used to be. Now you have to invest in it significantly to make it great.

Actually, sneaking isn′t all that hard even without perks ( I′ve played my stealth gal for nearly 20 hours without investing into sneak, with a companion nonetheless ). Here′s what I did.

1. I stayed out of the light wherever possible.

2. Whenever possible I used 3rd person view to glimpse around corners, if that failed I leaned out of cover.

3. I had the luxury of a silenced 10mm pistol.

4. I used stealthboys when there were no shadows to hide.

5. I avoided direct line of sight. That′s more important than one might think. Even with rank 5 in sneak now ( and 3 mags found ), unless you are in the dark, enemies will spot you.

I've had some similar experiences with the specific one you mentioned involving trying to pull off a melee assassination animation. However, every time I attempt it the person I'm sneaking up on always goes to caution when I approach. I'm still able to silently dispose of them before it goes to danger and I'm spotted by everyone, but even still.

Overall, I haven't had any trouble with sneaking in the game. Not sure if it has helped but I always modify my gear to shadowed as well. A silenced weapon always helps as well of course, but I've been able to pull of sneak crits without alerting anyone with something like a laser rifle. Must be some kind of lucky (ew, I quoted Follows-Chalk).

I'm also just going to throw in this point here, but once again in another Fallout game, I don't see any point in the Sandman perk. A sneak crit is almost always an instant kill on a human enemy, especially one that is sleeping. The only thing the Sandman perk really does throw in a fancy animation when you do it.

I don't have any trouble at all sneaking around in this game. I kill from afar as a sniper and kill up close like a scout.

Same ol' Bethesda game logic - build assasin, win game.

Stealth is hit and miss, I've had raiders run up to me and only go in to caution mode where as a bloatfly can detect me from miles away. As for sleeping raiders, I've come across one, and she woke as soon as I tried getting close and I was wearing leather armour with 2 stars in stealth. I do think stealth is a bit broken.
