Stealth Vs. Dragon

Post » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:55 am

I've looked for this topic several times but have never really found any good answers towards it (not on this forum). Its been constantly nagging at my mind as to how I'm going to beat a dragon as a stealth character. I know I know "shoot it with your bow" or "cast magic at it" but what if you went say a stealth character specialised in daggers? I know eventually you'd be able to specialise in bows and things later on, but to me just merely shooting at a dragon with a bow seems kind of a dull way to take it down, and not all stealth characters are likely to go into the destruction tree.

Basically, I want to specialise in daggers not bows. I want to specialise in magic, but not destruction. Taking down a dragon with magic appeals to me greatly, but not really with a stealth character. There are also dragon shouts, but surely they'd have a decent enough cooldown you'd have to wait for? And in relation to daggers, I doubt you'd be able to just stealth up to a dragon and slice its neck :P

Sorry if this was also on this forum, but after searching for a bit I wasn't able to find this topic.

It seems rather unlikely that you'll find a dragon that you can sneak up on for melee as they will most likely be perched up high on unreachable structures/ledges so that they can easily fly around.

doubt you could ever use stealth against a dragon... but you could use stealth to get out of a dragon fight... plus no one does just stealth talents... they will be either partly mage or partly warrior... my guy will be a one handed and bow master so I'll be great against dragons... bow to get them down... one handed to do as much damage as quick as possible... dead...

Yeah :P hence I said I doubt it.

I intend on doing just stealth stuff plus daggers for a while xD I'll eventually be going bows, but I much prefer the dagger style of play. Even then like I said, just a plane old bow seems kind of a dull way to take down a dragon but the rest of the stealth game play appeals to me

Don't kill it. Sneak around it and do what you have to that way. To the extent that you are required to kill dragons, don't do those quests (even if they are MQ). Hopefully there will be non-violent ways to do most quests, but that is probably hoping for too much.

Also sneak perk:crouching in combat makes enemies lose you as their tager and attack someone else.....so you can ask for some companions to come with you and you can use yuour stealth at will

I have a feeling there will be ways to coax the dragons onto the ground. You'll have to use terrain to your advantage. Like try ducking under an overhang or inside an abandoned building so he can't get a bead on you. He'll have to land and get right in your face if he wants to do any damage. Then you just run up and poke him to death with your dagger. Good luck with that BTW.

Thats very true. I forgot about that perk, could be useful to confuse the hell out of a dragon xD

I have a feeling the dragon's eyes will have an allergy to daggers ;P

I think that is exactly what dragon shouts are for - so you can fight dragons no matter what class you are (and some basic shouts may be taught by greybeards so that's something you will be starting with). That's just my presumption but seems likely to me.

Depends what you consider "beating" and "defeating", as Pete Hines said on twitter a while ago, there is always the option to try go through things sneaking, or maybe talking your way it, and since you wont be talking your way out of a dragon fight, I would assume there will be some occasions where you will find yourself able to sneak around one, but other than the satisfaction of out-witting a dragon, I dont think there would be any benefits to this.

for this ill rely on invisiblility spells to hit it from behind. We're going to have to use guerilla warfare against it or hit and run.

i'm sure beth will give the player chances to sneak up on a sleeping dragon and allow you to slit its spine.

Lure the dragon into an highly defended fortress perhaps? Sneak to an artillery weapon and take out its users and wait till the dragon comes and shoot him to uherbgturibiuehrbgiuthbiu

suppose you could do anything with magic other than destruction, use restoration and just hold out before it dies slashing the hell out of him. conjure armour daggers and creature to assist. drain all that you can from it and attack while you can or just go camo and hope it one ground use alchemy to poison dagger and hope for at least a good first hit

Yes, it seems that out of all the routes you can take, being a thief like character would be the one kind of player that may have a hard time taking out big enemies like a dragon. Yet, i'm kinda hoping that there will be some kind of perk where the dragon has a hard time seeing you and that you can sneak around to kill it.^_^

It would be [censored] awesome though if you had like an uber powerful dagger (like mehrunes razor), were perked out and had the best poison possible and maybe, just maybe if you back stabbed like the weakest dragon you could one hit it

Depending on the changes to the stealth system you might be able to use stealth in such a way that the dragon could lose track of your position, then prepare some powerful attack (poison arrow, sneak with a dagger, or dragon shout). I think it will be one of those things you have to adapt for each fight depending on other npcs, available cover, your ability to flee.

Run from dragons until you've maxed out daggers and start having perks to spare for something that can kill them. :goodjob:

That's the drawback of narrow specialization - there are situations where you are a sitting duck, and this is one of them.

Playing a game with dragons in it without using at least one ranged attack skill? Seems a little bit silly to me. Your only other alternatives is to either have a tank character (which isn't stealthy), use conjuration and let daedra do it for you, or to just http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W_u4UTvk9w
