Stealth + ? = Profit!

NOTE: Not necessarily which is the BEST type of magic with stealth, but which one YOU would take!

If you're rolling a (almost pure) Stealth character, but would also like to utilize magic, which do you choose and why?

Conjuration might be a good choice for the additional help seeing as how you are slightly squishier than a warrior. Restoration to help patch yourself up for minimum downtime and survivability? Destruction for the additional firepower? Alteration for added defense and Detect Life? Maybe Illusion for Night-Eye and Chameleon?

Illusion is the no brainer- add chameleon, the ability to distract enemies, what stealth character would leave home without it?

I like Illusion. I like Chamelion and Ivisibility but Frenzy is also a useful Stealth skill.

In Oblivion, I used Illusion and Mysticism. As seen in the gameplay video, detect life is now an Alteration spell. Illusion provides chameleon, invisibility, and nighteye. Mysticism (and now, at least in some cases, Alteration) provides detect life and telekinesis. The feather effect is also helpful.

Illusion because of all the reasons named above.

But since it seems destruction got this new spell "runic trap" I'm thinking to choose that instead? Depends on how the spell turns out to be, but if you can stealth around and place 2-3 traps on the ground and then attack lets say a group of enemies. You kill 1-2 with your bow, the rest charges right into your runic traps, exploding or whatever they do, that.. would be awesome :toughninja:

I've been playing a khajiit illusion thief since daggerfall here :] One helluva combo.

You can also completely substitute speechcraft for illusion, as you can use charm spells.

Conjuration for me. That damage bonus on bound weapons will dovetail nicely with stealth and 1h bonuses. With good stealth you shouldn't need high level chameleon.

Conjuration for me as well.

You can conjur badies in the shadows and when they die off, the victim has no idea where it came from....Rinse and repeat. Add archery as needed.

Silence or calm the enemy long enough to escape then creep back up behind and flank em. Simples. Illusion.

I was thinking the same thing regarding Chameleon. No doubt it's useful, but I can't help but think the added damage of Destruction or Conjuration would be an interesting choice.

And the Destruction runic traps - delicious! I was envisioning the same scenario: lay traps, shoot arrow, sit back and enjoy the auto-slaughter. I wonder how long a trap will sit there before disappearing...

Mysticism, Alteration, Illusion as magic schools, Arcane arts of this schools effective work together as magical alternative to rogue skills and tools.

With Mysticism we can absorb powers of our enemies effectively buffing self and weak them in one time no need in Restoration and Destruction, activate trapped chests and steal items from distance, detect hidden danger and valuable items, dispel protection of mages and their curses from self, absorb or reflect their spells, trap souls for our enchanted stuff and in emergency teleport away from critical situation.
Mysticism based on willpower what a good attribute of patient rogue, besides be a shady and mystic person is awesome.

With Alteration we can reach impossible naturally places Jump high, levitate awhile and them slowly fall in need place or swiftly swim in water without of need to breath for a time and if danger is close walk on water surface, with Shields we can protect self from incoming physical and elemental damage as well even harm with elemental aura in close combat, magical open and Lock will help deal with locks effectively trap guards in their rooms or open too hard to be opened with lockpick doors.
Alteration augment your Acrobatics and Security.

With Illusion we can manipulate minds of enemies in various ways make them blind, clam, demoralized, charmed and frenzied and then vanish from their eyes, silence and paralyze help to deal with warriors and mages, light on target help with invisible enemies, Sanctuary will increase your evasion by blurring your vision enemy will miss you in combat, Night Eye help to see in darkness without of reveling your location with light, Illusion school will augment your Stealth and Speechcraft skills well.

If you want take this path of Night best to train as Nightblade who are spellcasters who use their magics to enhance mobility, concealment, and stealthy close combat. They have a sinister reputation, since many nightblades are thieves, enforcers, assassins, or covert agents.

Illusion for most but my character would probably use alteration so he/she would have to come up with more creative solutions to sneaking around.
