Steam, CS, and that old Chunk size error

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:00 am

So I'm using the steam version of Morrowind.

I've gotten the version of the CS that is on Planet Elder Scrolls.

When I try to load the CS with all of the main files loaded, I get the following error message :

Chunk size 10 too big in chunk WHEAT_ID in form REGN_ID.
Max size is 8, data truncated to "**"
Continue running executable?

If I hit "Yes', the construction set then fails to find what looks like every object in the game.

Having used Google-Fu, I learned that this is commonly caused installing the expansions in the incorrect order. Unfortunately, I have no manual control over how the expansions are installed, as I am using the Steam version that automatically installs all of them.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Any fixes?

I'm on a 64bit Windows 7 machine. Could that be the source of the issue.

Thanks in advance!

I suspect that whoever uploaded that version of the CS uploaded the wrong version. You need the CS from Bloodmoon which is compatible with 1.6.1820, since 2 new weather types were added in Bloodmoon increasing the size of WEAT sub-record of the REGN records from 8 to 10.

I'd complain to the uploader.

Ah,

That makes sense.

Does anyone feel like being charitable and uploading a functional copy?

I don't have an independent copy of bloodmoon, and I have had no success locating a copy of its version of the CS.

EDIT: Well I managed to get a copy for myself, but this is a significant issue that should be addressed -somewhere-.

I'm in the same boat here - GOTY on Steam, though I do actually have Bloodmoon on disc if I need it. It's the version 1.6.280 for the construction set that I need - does anyone know where I'd (legally) find this? Presumably I'm looking for a patch, but I didn't see one on Bethesda's site. The version of the CS I'm using is the one on the Morrowind CD, hence all the errors. I can juuuust about mod something that's just MW + TB, but it crashes altogether if it requires BM.

According to the comments there, that's still the wrong version of the CS. Luckily http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1073542-getting-the-cs-to-work-with-the-steam-version/ topic seems to have the answer (use Universal Extractor to pull out data1.cab from the Bloodmoon CD and then copy over the Construction Set.exe file into your Morrowind folder) - but thank you for the advice.

Ah. I must say the title of the page gave me the wrong impression.
