Steam Cloud Rage

@summer: That quote is inaccurate and has been superseded by http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1122859-attention-saves-arent-missing/page__st__80__p__16523146&#entry16523146

Thanks rybrad. I just got up and am catching up. Good to know. And good to know they are working on it.

Yeah and that problem usually exists between the keyboard and chair, most people I saw found their manual saves in a different folder.

I would love to see these reports of people who have purportedly found their saves in another folder. While you are at it go ahead and let me know where my manual saves are since apparently I am the problem. They are not in \Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves. They are not in \Steam\userdata\STEAMUID\22380. They are not shown in full system searches using the regex of *.fos, *.bak or m_save_*.* (m_save_# is my naming convention for manual saves). If you have insight on where these files (that don't show up in an entire system wide search that encompasses every drive and server on my network) might be, I would definitely like to hear it.

Well, I love Borderlands, but their save system is a little f00ked up too. Since it relies completely on autosaves. My friend had his save corrupted and lost months of work.

I feel your buddies pain, but Borderlands has never hosed me on saves. FO:NV is, frankly, a entirely new world of hurt, IMO. This game engine SHOULD be optimized to high-heaven after all this time. I made this assumption when I decided to buy it without svcking down some reviews first.

Great idea! Oh wait, several people (myself included) have lost manual saves since the patch yesterday.

Thanks for the update Summer, I'll check it out when I get home tonight. :goodjob:

I'm not usually this bombastic about game bugs given my love for the franchise, but this one ruined my launch-night gaming experience. At the very Least I would hope that the culprit of this bug is denied coffee for at least 1 day. ;)

Sounds to me like what Really happened here is that the bug was generated by a combination of Steam + FNV, and would explain why none of the QA testers found this ahead of time. It is Sad that this bug, which likely has nothing to do with the coders, devs or QA staff, is going to be the most memorible and do the most damage to the title over all the others. I'm betting that "Make sure to test final game copy with DRM site" is now on the QA list of things to do before launch!

And to think that I was going to take the day off to play this. I am so glad I didn't. What a waste of time and money. I so want my money back but that's not gonna happen. This is the last time I buy a Bethesda game on launch. They got me with FO3 and this so-called game. They are not getting me a third time. It is astounding to me that this crap was released in such an unfinished state.

Shame on you, Bethesda!

Just lost a nice chunk of game time myself do to a random crash and not being able to get a recent autosave to load. Isn't everyone just so happy we have Steam? Where are all the pro steam folks to tell us how to get our saves back?

Did you read what you posted?

Spoke with some folks at our office and if you were experiencing issues with Steam Cloud that affected your save games or game settings, these should now be resolved.

This makes me very concerned...a semi-official post that says the Steam Cloud save game issues have been fixed. From the volume of posts still being made about this issue, the fix was not very effective. I know my Quick/Auto saves are still being overwritten. Please make sure that the developers don't think this issue is resolved.

This is an issue with Steam cloud, not with the game. Valve is the one that will have to fix this.

I totally Agree cause what the hell is this crap I spend 50 USD for a game and I can't even get a reliable autosave system? It's 2010 I shouldn't have to worry about saving my game every 20 minutes for fear that the game might freeze or crash or because the freaking autosave doesn't freaking work you would think that Bethesda/Obsidian would catch on to such a colossal error but no I guess they just didn't give a damn fix this piece of fecal matter game right now.

I have also had this issue with both auto save and manual save failing, I only lost about 6 hours or gameplay but it is still extremely flustering. This is completely a deal breaker for me and I wont be playing anymore till it is fixed.

hell yes, this should have been more important than a patch just released to fix some scripts.

whats the point of fixing scripts ill never see because my saves keep reverting?

im not implementing any user workarounds. that just gives the devs the ok signal that they can take their sweet time. they cant. this is an awful bug.
