Steam Cloud Won't Sync on second PC

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:38 am

I have owned FONV for a long time now and just now have the setting anddrivers right to play it smoothly...so another issue has popped up. I have the gMe installed on my PC and have had it installed for some time so when I got it running well I installed it on the laptop..well it seems when I play on the laptop the game run fine and sync's fine but now when I try to play on the desktop PC the game will not sync with the steam clout. I had sure that everything was checked to make it sync with no luck. Now..When I installed the game on the laptop I didnt fully understand that the game would save the files server side so I copied the save file from the laptop and replaced the one on the desktop to keep the same progress on both PC's. I think this might have something to do with the error, but I have removed the save file and the preference files hopeing that the cloud would see the missing files and replace them but no...I even had steam check for missing/damaged file and it always find 1 and replaces it(had eversence i bought the game). One more thing when i log-in to steam on the laptop it has more options on the log-in screen like the laptop might be the main PC and the desktop might be a back-up..I dont know that has anything to do with it but it might help out some. Ill check back often to update with new info or to answer any questions you have. Thx

Well the thing is I would like to use the cloud..it would make it easier to play the same game on 2 different computers without having to transfer the files. I do not get the error on the laptop and I have the steam cloud enabled on both PC's. The desktop didnt start giving me this error till I installed and logged into the laptop.

He's not saying you should disable the Steam Cloud, he's saying that the Steam Cloud isn't actually available for New Vegas. Yes, you can toggle it on or off, and Steam sometimes complains about sync issues, but nothing for New Vegas is saved on the Steam Cloud, nor can you make it do so. You have to manage save file backups/copies yourself. =/

P.S. - That one file Steam always redownloads when you verify the game is a red herring; it's a part of Steam's install script for New Vegas and it redownloading has no (real) bearing on whether the game works or not.

Thank you for clearing that up, I will just transfer the files via flash drive. Thx to all who replied.
