That made me chuckle, when have you ever seen a $60 indie game?

I dunno, games that are under $10 and not at least 3 years old scare me...even if they are on sale! :P

and yeah..i understand that expensive doesn't=good..but this game just seems a bit new to already be on the "lets mark it as 5 bucks and see if we can sell afew copies" list.

Reviews I've read seem rather pleased with it, but I haven't bought it yet and I don't plan to till I finish Clear Sky.

Is Mount&blade any good? I've seen good reviews online, but a $5 game that isn't even 2 years old yet looks fishy..which reminds me of my purchase of Two Worlds. D:!

Mount and Blade is great, especially for that price; though you need to know what you are getting. It is basically a medieval combat game, with the mounted combat part the best you will find. There is really no story at all in the vanilla version, though there are supposedly quite a few good mods out there. You create a character and join a world with 5 warring factions, you can join any of the factions, fight as a mercenary or stay neutral. If charging across a field, guessing the right angle, and running an enemy horseman through with a lance sounds like fun, it will easily be worth your $5.

There are a ton of different mods, from ones that turn the game world into ancient Rome and ones that change it into the wild west. There's even a Star Wars mod.

It's indie and a bit of a niche game, so it retails for lower - and, I feel, is quite often overlooked. Personally I think it's brilliant; there's nothing else quite like it. Storming castles in first- (or third-) person with a hundred men at your back is quite an amazing sight, as is bearing down on a row of infantry with twenty lancers... Similar combat to Oblivion, only much more realistic. I'd say it's quite like Sid Meider's Pirates! as well, as you can recruit troops and train them up, make sure they're fed and paid with all the loot you collect, etc. Five kingdoms at war, you pick one and fight for their banner with your troops, following the orders of your liege and rising through the ranks (or fight as a rebel for your own ends.) Alternatively there are tournaments you can compete in for gold, or you can take on dubious missions... It does get a little repetitive after a while (the missions could do with more variety) and it's not very polished or fleshed out as much as it could be (the towns are pretty lifeless, though you can explore every single one) - however, there's no better game if you want to get medieval in an enormous melee. :D

There are also quite a few great mods out there (notably an http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf3rDGROTNQ) and several tweaks and graphics mods which make some scenes look pretty amazing. There's also an expansion coming that will have a full facelift for the engine, and add new features like multiplayer.

edit: ninja'd by sbr :P

The Direct2Drive version of Oblivion was incompatible with the Oblivion Script Extender, I assume the same is the case for Fallout and its scripting extender. You'd be better off buying it somewhere else.

Apparently Star wars galaxies is only for 9.99$ with all expentions and a free month.

I wonder if it'd be worth it... I never played it, and it looks interesting, but I've heard some weird patch made it svck not long ago.

Does anyone here know if 10$ would be worth a month of play? (One thing'd be for sure trough, I wouldn't play for a second month)

Anyways, if it svcks I'll wait until The Old Republic comes out.

If you prepurchase Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising you get Saints Row 2 free. I'm considering picking it up along with Bad Company 2.

I was a bit disappointed in DoW2 after playing the first one. I'll probably pick up the expansion sometime after the release though. It looks cool.

http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,63.0.html and http://www.mbrepository.com/ I've only played the 1866 mod and the Native Expansion myself, but both are excellent: the Native Expansion maintains the flavor of the original game but adds more variety, and 1866 is an amazing wild west mod. It's a little rough around the edges, but well worth playing - I'm currently having a blast with it!

Other good mods I've seen mentioned are the Sword of Damacles, Hundred Years War, and the Eagle and the Wolf. There are also a couple of other smaller mods that add gameplay tweaks like formations, improving siege warfare, and a few updates for graphics and animations (although nothing like the Warband add-on coming next month.)

Just to note: mods of previous versions (pre-1.00x) are not compatible with the newer versions of Mount & Blade. I believe the newest retail release is version 1.011, so you'll have to use mods for that version (which most of them are.)

Also, there are a few tweaks to the general gameplay that you might want to look into after playing for a while, such as adjusting some of the figures and calculations for things like wages, who gets what castle as a reward, how many prisoners you can capture, etc. You can make these tweaks individually to any mod as well, details http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?topic=46290.0 (it may look a bit complicated, but it isn't!)

Hope that helps! :)

I liked them both, I kind of wish they had stuck with base building in DOW2 but they were both good in their own right. I have also been looking at Saints Row 2 for a while now, and so the deal really benefits me. If it has some decent length missions for a campaign I think it'll be worth it, because the campaign of RTS games is usually my favorite part. I also play last stand quite a bit with a friend, so the new units could add some fun.

I am also pleased that they are going the expansion route than selling bits and pieces as DLC.

Is Shadowgrounds worth picking up? Particularly, is it + Shadowgrounds: Survivor worth $5?

BTW, they are Steam's current midweek sale.
