Steam, DLC, Buying game thoughts...

Post » Sat Oct 16, 2010 9:04 am

The first issue is to put it on your regular steam account or make a new one? This is just something you have to decide with steam games, no biggie.

Usually what I do with a DLC game is buy the game, wait for GOTY, buy that too for DLC.

If I do that with this game though, I will end up losing 1 copy of fallout NV that I buy, if I put them all on my reg steam account.

So, pretty much, buy game then buy DLC online from steam? or buy game for new account then buy it again GOTY for regular?

Guess I will have to decide soon. My only issue with buying online from steam is my account has no CC tied to it yet.

So, I was wondering, how are you planning on buying the game and DLC? Not, that it is a big deal, just wondering what everyone else is doing.

I got lots of disposable income even though I don't have a job so I'll just buy the game and subsequently buy the DLC's.

I'm going to add probably $50 to my Steam Wallet. That should be good enough for all the DLC.

Live or Die Soup of Town....

....make your choice....

.... the game begin.....

---------------------------------------

But seriously talking now, buy the game and when DLC's get released buy them on STEAM and they get tied to your vanilla FO:NV and you won't have two copies of the same game.

Why bother adding it to the wallet at all?

Because I don't have a credit card, and with a Visa gift card(my only option), there is a $5 activation fee and the funds go down every month. Would rather spend a good amount one time with one activation fee and add it to the wallet and purchase the DLC right away rather than the alternative.

Never having used Steam for anything before, can you not use Paypal or similar to transfer funds or pay for stuff? What about debit cards?

I dont have the slightest clue what you are talking about, and I don't know how to answer the question besides saying I buy the game then the DLC when it comes out.

I don't think you can use PayPal, and I don't have a debit card either. Like I said, a Visa gift card is my only option when it comes to buying things online.

Dang that's rough, and expensive I'd imagine.

Never having used this wallet, I'm confused. How do you add money to it without some sort of online money system? Can you transfer from a checking account?

It's kinda like the Points system... except it works in real-world currency and doesn't require you to buy an arbitrary amount just to get something under that value (like having to buy 1000 "points" to get an 800-point thing). You can just buy as much Steam Wallet money as you immediately need for a particular transaction.

Basically, what GFWL points would be like if the system was designed to give you your money's worth instead of bilk you.

Ah. Yes, the point system was a major failing of GFWL for me.

I used Steam Wallet on TF2... to replace some things that I had crafted... after...I...uh... crafted too much stuff when trying to get a Golden Wrench...

Worked exactly as I said. Like GFWL points, but in real world money values and I only had to buy as much Steam Money as I needed for that one transaction.

You can fill it with arbitrary values, though, if you want pre-loaded funds for that stuff.

Steam does make an honest effort to service the customer... as opposed to the Shareholder like Microsoft and their GFWL.

You can use PayPal alright. At least here. I do not know whether this is based on my location, but it really shouldn't be since PayPal is available pretty much anywhere in the Western world.
