Steam & DLC

Post » Sun Aug 30, 2015 1:27 pm

Hi - so, I have the basic game of Skyrim on Steam, no DLC.

I'd like to get the DLC but Dragonborn + Dawnguard + Hearthfire bought through Steam would total $44.97

I could buy the Legendary Edition of Skyrim through Steam for $39.99 and save some money.

However - I can also buy the PC Legendary Edition of Skyrim from Amazon.com for $19.99 and save even more.

(I know that you still run Skyrim through Steam even if buying the physical PC version - I bought the Legendary Edition for a friend and he had to create a Steam account to run it.)

My question (for now) is this -

1.) Will purchasing the complete game either through Steam or the physical PC copy re-install and overwrite the existing game but still allow you to play previously saved characters?

Thanks for any help.

I had a similar situation earlier this year but for a different reason. I already owned the base skyrim and didnt have the bandwidth to install the DLC, so I went out and bought the physical version of Skyrim Legendary Edition. I was disappointed when i found out, that all it did was provide me with a redeemable code to download all the DLC ontop of my current install.

So for me it's not what I wanted, but for you, it will do what you need!

Skyrim Legendary Edition is a steam game bundle. As with ALL steam game bundles, they can only be redeemed together, and when redeemed any duplicates will be lost if you already own them.

Buying the Legendary Edition will be cheaper than buying the individual DLCs, even if you own the regular game, so it is still favorable to do so if you want the DLCs and have none of them already.

It has no effect on saves.

---------

How: You must insert Disc and follow the installation prompts (if autorun is active) or run “Setup.exe” on the disc (if autorun is not active).

Note: You will be prompted to enter the provided Steam code during the installation process; this will be included with the game’s packaging. Steam activation is required.

After you start your game for the first time, you can play Skyrim in offline mod. !!!

Great! Thanks so much for the info and help.

I thought of one more question - I'd like to install the Legendary Edition on both my Desktop and Laptop so I can play between them, is there a limit to being able to install to only one device?

Thanks again.

If you are using the same steam account registered on 2 computers, you can play Skyrim separate on each computer, just not simultaneously.
