STEAM Downloading Update (PLEASE Help!)

Post » Thu Oct 01, 2009 7:13 pm

When I installed the game last night on STEAM it was going to take forever to download even though I had the retail dvd. So I did the delete cache "trick" and installed from the disk. Didn't take long at all. The problem is now with this update, I am only going at 50kb/s on average! That's so slow! It's not quite half downloaded and it's telling me I have over an hour and a half to wait. I THINK it has something to do with me being on a college network that is notoriously slow (military college, they actually cut our bandwidth at night for a mandatory study period). Anyway, I know I can get download speeds of at least 200-250kb/s from the internet. Isn't there ANY other way I can download this patch or possibly fix STEAM being so slow?!

edit:

I tried to change the steam connection speeds from 256 to 10M cable and it didn't do anything.

Did you set the download location closer to you in settings?

Thats because every one is downloading it at the same time.

Seems your just being capped by your college. Nothing you can do. Its not STEAM I just downloaded the patch in about 47 seconds.

@Herterich:

Yes, it was set to Washington I changed it to Charlette

@RedSpeed:

That shouldn't have anything to do with it...

@apachehavok:

It's not the college. I downloaded another file from the internet at ~200kb/s average. I think the settings with STEAM and with my college's network might possibly be conflicting though.

Is there another download site I can get the file from? The file is now jumping from 50 to 20 kb/s.
