The Men of War games are 75% of on Steam until Thursday.
Anyone know if they're any good? I'm a big RTS fan.
The general combat is a lot like a more realism based company of heroes, it also has a lot more realistic features. For example tanks have a set amount of ammo, and you can resupply them when they run out, also infantry have a set number of grenades, they don't regenerate them over time. Infantry will also be slaughtered head-on from tanks, but their anti-armor grenades can easily take down tanks if they can get a position to flank them. I paid $3.74 for the first Men of War game (it was on sale for the same price during Christmas) and after playing a couple of missions immediately went and bought the expansion pack for $6.24. I've played the original for 12 hours, solely the campaign and haven't beat it. I stopped playing it to no fault of the games own, Starcraft 2 came out and I figured I would play it with friends while people were still playing it. I have actually been meaning to start playing MOW again.
The only downside I can think of is there are no skirmishes, just the campaign in terms of player vs AI, also the cut scenes for the campaign are cheesy if that bothers you, I didn't really mind it, not like you can't skip them.
Overall try the demo, search for some Men of War gameplay on Youtube if you are still not sure. If even after that you aren't sure I would buy the game for $3.74, and if you like it do what i did and buy the expansion, you only lose $1.24 for not buying the gold edition.
If you have any other questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them, it's a fun game and I would have happily payed full price for it. When I saw it first released on Steam I dismissed it as just another WW2 RTS, but after they made an offer I couldn't refuse and I looked into the game more I couldn't pass up the deal, and never regretted buying it.
EDIT: Because I recently though of it and wanted to point it out: There are missions in the game where you control a small squad of soldiers and other missions where you control an entire army, and I was extremely impressed how it all came together in either scenario and it was both challenging and fun whether you are throwing troops at the enemy or tactically killing individuals.
