I'm thinking of getting Risen for PC. The reviews I read say it starts out slow, but ends up being pretty good. Does anyone have any first hand comments?

Yasgur, there's a demo on Steam if you haven't tried it already.

50% off Just Cause 2.

Pretty good deal but I've seen the physical copy for less.

I heard the game svcked a great deal but you never know, somebody may be interested.

Edit: Oh and don't worry, the site is legit. I've never used it but people from over at Cheap Ass Gamer ordered from them with no problems.

I think the first two chapters are very enjoyable, the later two are a bit weaker. But overall enjoyable, and Leydenne enjoyed it too :)

I just checked Steam and I can't seem to find the demo, so here's a link to somewhere else you can download it:

Just in case you never thought of googling it. :P

I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy Just Cause 2...

I've really been wanting to play the full game, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Does it get repetitive?

Yeah, the creatures are a bit weird in Risen.

GamersGate is having an AMAZING sale on a bunch of RPGs. Check it out:

http://www.gamersgate.com/summersale?aff=cag

Depressingly, Dragon Age and Mass Effect, despite being really cheap, aren't under the $7.50 I'm willing to spend on a digital game. The Witcher is the right price, however I'd much prefer buying a retail copy of that game.

But if you aren't a cheap ass, digital distribution hater like myself, these are some really, really good deals.

Is it just me or is Alien Breed just an Alien Swarm that costs money...

EDIT: Oh my, those are some good deals Antibody. Wish I could spare the cash for ME2 or Dragon Age :(

Wait what?

It's 50% off.

If I were to get one of the Gothics, which one should I get?

The first one remains as my favorite, but Gothic II is very good too.

Gothic III was quite buggy back when it was released, but I think all the patches improved upon that now (although I never tried them myself), but I feel the main quest in the game lack too much focus, so only get it if you want a large game world to explore.

That's weird, the .co.uk site has the 0% thing when I look at their version of the sale but I was still able to buy ME2 at the 50% price through the .com site.

GoG is offering a http://www.gog.com/en/promo/topware_pack for 50% off this weekend, or 30% off if you buy a game individually.

...In other news, Two Worlds is $7USD this weekend, being a TopWare game, and I really need someone to convince me not to buy it. I've been playing too much F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate, and it's put me in a right B-movie/MST3K mockery mood. (I'm sure Timegate didn't mean to make the best B-movie ever, but really.) So I'm tempted to get Two Worlds just for the lulz factor. But I've also heard the game's really bad, not to mention that it looks like a gratuitously obvious Oblivion knock-off.

Halp please. (Note: also totally willing to entertain arguments to go ahead and buy it.)

I find myself surprised that GOG has it, being that the game is not old, nor is it, strictly speaking, good. One out of three doesn't cut it, people! :P If you can get beyond the first half hour, you will likely enjoy the rest of the time you spend on the game. This means that you have the ability to severely lower your standards, because I have to warn you, though, the first half hour is God-awful. The combat makes little sense, your character runs like he has a stick up his bum, and the dialogue will probably make your ears bleed. The only way I can account for actually liking the game is brain damage caused by the experience. Hopefully it is not permanent.

Hmm.... dunno which way that will influence your decision.

 I dunno either. I've seen Unskippable's mockery of the opening cutscene, so yeah, I know all about the ear-bleeding dialogue and voice acting. Which I'm sure would drive me nuts. I think I'm just hoping that, like Perseus Mandate, it's so bad it crosses the B-movie silliness threshold and wraps back around to entertaining again.

(And yeah, I don't know why GoG has the game either. I was momentarily confused as to what site I was on when I saw it.)

How's (Real)Myst? It just got added to Steam for €4,99. I've heard a lot of good things about this game.

It's a very good update of the original Myst--the graphics are much improved, and you can freely roam the main island and other Ages, instead of being on a slideshow railway. (Well, you can go anywhere as much as the Ages' design allows--you can't go swimming. Or barricade hopping.) I think some of the sound design may have been updated as well, but don't quote me on that. It's been a while since I played it. The puzzles and story are all the same as in the original version--for good or for ill, on the puzzle front. (... ...I still have nightmares about that mazerunner.) They also threw in a small "bonus" Age and some little easter eggs for the series' lore buffs.

I'm not sure how compatible it is with newer OSes, though, so that might be worth looking into before you buy. It'll certainly behave better than the original Myst, though. FWIW, if compatibility is an issue, GoG has it for a dollar more, at least going by US prices, and that version should be a little more forwards compatible. (That's the version I have. I love Steam to bits, but when it comes to running older games on Win7/Vista, GoG has a better track record for providing proper support.)
