Steam Fallout 3 GOTY Installation Issues

Hey guys, I'm having an issue running Fallout 3 GOTY which I just downloaded from Steam. I'm attempting to run it on a Toshiba Satellite notebook running Windows 8 with an AMD A10 Elite Quad-Core processor and a Radeon dual graphics card

After consulting the tech support link from the launcher, I attempted the following steps:

As Fallout 3 was created prior to the release of Windows 7 and 8, it's not tested or supported on either of these newer operating systems. You may be able to run it using compatibility mode in Windows 7/8, but we cannot guarantee it will function properly in this new operating system.

To change compatibility settings for a program:
1. Right-click the application file for the program. This can be found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3 (retail copy) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Fallout 3 (Steam version).
You will need to follow steps 2-6 for the Fallout3 application file as well as FalloutLauncher.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Compatibility tab.
4. Check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode".
5. Choose Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the drop-down
6. It may also be necessary to check the box for "Run this program as an administrator."

However, after trying this procedure an error window popped up stating that :

"The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\xlive.dll."

Does anyone know how to fix this?

That's a file used by Games for Windows Live. The version that comes with the GOTY edition is out of date, you need to go to Microsoft and download/install the latest version.

I tried this thread, earlier, but I must've missed what I was looking for. Fallout seems to be running fine now. Thanks for the feedback!
