Steam games launch with small window, blackness

Post » Thu Dec 25, 2014 1:57 am

Hello forumers,

So most of my Steam games are not working properly. They launch but when they do, Steam windows all become incredibly small and not manageable, and the games themselves launch with a small, centered window, surrounded by blackness.

I've never had any of these issues until I immediately began using Windows 8.1 (I've never owned 8.0 either).

I'll try launching the games as administrator with compatibility mode, and it still doesn't fix the issue.

Has anyone any idea on how to fix this? That would be awesome! :)

Cheers!

Do you know if you have any weird options enabled on steam? It could be causing it.

It sounds like the games are running in a lower resolution than your monitor's native resolution, and your graphics card/monitor isn't scaling them properly. Are you having this problem with older games, or modern games set to the correct resolution?

Scaling issues. Check your Nvidia/AMD//Intel graphics control panel and adjust the scaling to fit your monitor.
