[BUG] Steam overlay causes controls to break

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 10:40 am

BUG 1

Play Skyrim while logged into steam friends.
Go to any NPC and press E to open a dialogue with the NPC.
Receive a message from a friend on steam.
Press shift-tab to open the steam overlay.
Respond to message.
Press shift-tab to go back to the game.

Result: TAB key no longer works as intended in Skyrim, meaning you cannot exit the NPC menu.
Temporary resolution: Restart game.

BUG 2

Die while transitioning to another area and the game auto saves.
Result: Stuck in endless die and reload loop.
Resolution: load an earlier save and potentially lose alot of progress.

BUG 3:

Small thing really, but the mouse buttons were configured the oposite way round when I started a fresh game.

Hope these get fixed

Thanks

Chris

Turn off steam overlay for Skyrim :)

Default mouse buttons backward is intentional. It's conventional for Left mouse button to be "Main hand" which is right hand..and the other visa versa. It confused me as well but apparently is normal.

Not surprised at all, considering what a pile of crap Steam is.

If I turn steam overlay off then I have to alt tab back to desktop to respond to steam messages and that is just annoying to do everytime I receive a message.
I didn't know that the mouse buttons were intentionally like this, thanks for letting me know.
i like steam, but ye it has a few bugs.

I just wanted to provide another report on bug 1 - I too am seeing the Steam overlay problem.

I found a better work-around than restarting the game, however - if you use your mouse, you can click on the words "[Tab] Exit" on the bottom-right hand corner of the screen to exit out of the NPC dialog (You can actually use the mouse to click on almost any of the messages which indicate a key press to achieve an action, to do that same action).

Once you exit the dialog with that NPC using the mouse, it seems that Tab starts working again as intended.
