Steam patch 1.3 now LIVE!

Post » Sat Apr 10, 2010 1:48 pm

I think the Cowboy perk is best now for those who want to use revolvers (Ranger Sequioa, Lucky, etc), which were left untouched. The rifles aren't so great now, at least, not if you're looking for speed. Like I said, the Brush gun might still be good for sniping. I'll make a run through the Mojave with it and tell you how the sniping goes.

The Assault Carbine and CZ57 are probably gonna be godly as hell now: they decreased it's spread (was already the lowest of the automatic weapons) and the 5mm now pierces armor even with basic rounds.

It's about time they make the only two weapons using 5mm actually worthwhile.

Is the Brush Gun good still? It was one of my favorite weapons before, I hope it doesn't get ruined. Anyone have the spread and AP cost for it? I don't believe the damage was supposed to change but correct me if I'm wrong.

No spread, but AP cost is 33, up from 23. Did it the old fashioned way, since the geck is broke and I don't have fnvedit, but I still got the console.

If you could give me the spread values for the CZ57, Trail Carbine, and Brush Gun, I would be EXTREMELY grateful.

I need someone with a broken GECK and working FNVEdit to try something for me. Contact me on Steam IMs, my account name matches my handle here.

THANK YOU!! That's not too big of a change; hopefully when you can look into the game files, we'll get the spread. Again, thanks a lot for this, man!

Well, i just picked a fight with the NCR to test out the Service Rifle and i definitely felt it! Also 5mm AP is nasty, in a good way.

So, among the PC users, the general consensus is that the Cowboy Rifles are useless now, right?

Really? No more detailed notes? Thanks, guys. I mean, to be fair, Obsidian's notes are way more detailed than Bethesda's, but I'd still like to know more rather than these vague "assorted fixes" comments.

In other news, has anyone noticed that the 64 hz bug/micro-stuttering seems to be fixed? At least on my end it seems to be.

Cowboy was always a small-time perk for early game weapons anyway.

Does it include running the game? If yes, I'm out, otherwise I can help with FNVEdit.

Just did a short run through the Mojave.

When I used to snipe with my Brush gun, I would say I would land a hit in 1-3 shots. Now it's more like 1-5. It can still be sniped with since enemies at that range will take that amount of time to react anyways, so the spread isn't crippling, but at the same time you have to ask yourself if it's worth carrying an extra gun with a different kind of ammo. A sniper will hit for sure, will crit more often and fires faster so you're guarenteed two hits. A Brush gun fires slower, crits less and is less accurate, the only benefit being that the base damage is rather high; might as well learn to use the sniper or get an Anti-Material Rifle instead.

I dunno why you would use a Brush gun (or any lever action rifle) for mid-range either, considering the automatic weapons all got accuracy/damage increases, so they'd be superior there too.

The Cowboy Perk would still be beneficial for someone who uses revolvers, and the rifles can still be used as your main weapon, but if we're talking best-of-the-best gear in each category, yeah they've lost their value. Get a sniper for long-range, an automatic rifle for mid-range and a good fist for close-quarters.

This is like the people that said the sniper rifle was useless when you couldnt use it as a 100% crit battle rifle. The Cowboy weapons will still work, but now they dont outperform the tier above them.

The sniper rifle and the cowboy repeater were both jokes how overpowered they were but i have to admit the sniper rifle got nerfed to death R.I.P gobi .

If I understand the changes in the new patch correctly, then it seems that balance between repeater and sniper rifles should be better now.
Didn't have time to check it though.

Well, the Brush Gun is a top tier weapon, and the Trail Carbine is also one of the high-end weapons. I'll reserve my judgment for when we get actual spread numbers. Thanks for all the info guys!

Haha, never mind about the 64 hz tick rate fix, microstutter is still there. Seems like wishful thinking on my part. Reason why was because I had v-sync disabled and the microstutter only manifests with it enabled. Shame.

You should expect to always crit, because if you are using a sniper, you should be sniping from a distance from stealth, and the sneak crit is assured.

Oh I don't know, 10 Luck+Finesse+Built to Destroy+1st Recon Beret+True Police stories with Comprehension will give it 66% crit rate. That's pretty effective.

Title says it all. Unfortunately the Steam news post does not give any info beyond the weapons balances, simply saying "his update contains optimizations and stability improvements".

Thanks Mike the Mad :foodndrink: Now i can reinstall FALLOUT NEW VEGAS and check out the delightful goods.

Thank you OBSIDIAN for the hard, time consuming work in creating a wonderful patch.

Thanks STEAM for being download central to all things magnificent and dance inducing :D

Not true. It made the Cowboy Repeater/La Longue Carabine powerhouses up to around level 15-20. Trail Carbines became the dominant sniping weapon, eclipsing even the AMR. (more common, lighter ammo, DPS, etc.) The Brush Gun with Cowboy is possibly the best gun in the game (This Machine and the Holorifle are also solid contenders). Also, the Mysterious Magnum becomes a beast with Cowboy, easily the best sidearm in the game.

Tesla Cannons are pretty much holorifles without a scope now. 4 shots before reload, 5/6 ECP per shot, roughly 80/90 damage per shot +20/+25 damage/second for 2 seconds, about 1.5 attacks/second, no more aoe damage, still very good accuracy, basicly disintegrates when fired.

That gun damage boosted from 18 (?) to 30, about 4 attacks/second. 12.7mm pistols little brother more or less.

Also Gatling laser got a nice buff. Now it does 16 damage/attack with all the related perks/upgrades when prepatch it about 12 before ammo modifiers. With max charge ammo it does about 23 damage/attacks and 701 raw DPS with -10 to DT for me.
