Steam price in BRL

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:40 am

First of all I must say that I love Fallout and IMHO is way better than TES, but I must talk about the price.
I live in Brazil and I'm already used to pay a lot more for games that people out there actually pay.
The base price for F4 is U$59,99 which would represent R$188,36, this price is still expensive but is acceptable, the price here for new games usually is R$150~180.
However the price that is on Steam is R$250,00 which would represent 31% of the minimum wage that is R$788,00. The brazilian price is the most expensive price for F4 on Steam something around 32% most expensive that the base price.
I love games, I buy all the games that I like and I'll probably buy Fallout 4, but R$250,00 ? Come on this is very expensive.
And don't come with "Taxes" excuse since other games with the same price (U$59,99) aren't even near that overwhelming price that is R$250,00:
TESO: U$59,99 = R$119,99
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms - NA: Collector's Pack (Recon): U$59,99 = R$153,99
Firefall - "Racer" Premium Pack: U$59,99 = R$113,99
Red Faction Collection: U$59,99 = R$99,99
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel: U$59,99 = R$99,00
Assassin's Creed?Syndicate: U$59,99 = 129,99 (2015 game)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six?Siege: U$59,99 = R$129,99 (will be released in october)
The Witcher?3: Wild Hunt: U$59,99 = R$129,99 (one of the best games of the year and just got released)
And the list goes on. I must appeal, please look at the reality of the country before set the prices, aren't for that the steam region restrictions?
Well, at least the trailer had portuguese subtitles, are the game being released in portuguese as well? That would be a good notice despite the absurd price.

You'd have to take that up with Steam, I'm guessing.

I can only assume that Brazil has some sort of tariff or extra tax being tacked onto the game? Or steam has some issue with Brazil that they have to charge more for games in the Brazil region?

I'd say go to steam and ask the help technicians there what the problem is.

Theres is tons of taxes here, but that wouldn't justify the other games with the same price in USD way way cheaper than F4 in BRL (including games in pre order).

Yeah that is kinda weird that it would only be for that one game... Maybe steam is being greasy, and upping the price for no real reason while the fallout 4 hype is on, to later bring the price down and the people who pre buy the game dont notice.

Again, I'd suggest going to steam and asking them why the increase in price for Brazil when a comparable game at the same USD price doesn't increase the same amount.

I'll ask there but I thought that since the developers set the base price the regional prices would be also their responsability.

It has to be more than just Steam being greedy. That's like us playing $120 for a new game it's outlandish and ridiculous. It must be a mistake or something.

I really hope that is a mistake, and also would be nice have subtitles in portuguese, but I don't think that this will happen haha. If someone from Bethesda see this thread please contact the Steam to see that, they'll probably give more attention for you guys.

The same happened with MK10 and after some time they lowered the price.

That is just ridiculous. If you have a friend in the U.S., you should pay them to get the game and ship it to you.

Genesis is still popular in Brazil, yes? Heck, maybe they'll port it.

Part of it is Brazil and their high taxes on this kind of stuff. It is also more expensive for servers in Brazil for steam. It has nothing to do with bethesda.

On the playstation store in the UK for a long time many games were 拢64.99 or $100 ish. Part is taxes and part is companies like Steam's greed. Wait until the price decreases to buy it. That's what I do.

Yeah, that's actually my bad, I thought that since they set the base prices the regional prices would also their call. But they should take a look at it, this price will probably influence the sales in a negative way here.

Game prices seem to ignore the reality of individual countries.

I live in Greece, and here is what: 5 years ago the prices of new PC games on retail would be 30 or 40 euros. Back then, the average month's wages for a non-speliazed private worker were between 600E and 800E.

Now, because of the austerity measures, wages have fallen to between 400E and 500E a month. But nowdays the prices of new games seem to be 59.99E !

So the wages fell by 20% to 30%, and the game prices were doubled for some reason. Of course the 'austerity measures' had a VAT increase, but VAT was only increased from 18% to 23%, while game prices did so up to 100% increase.

So there doesn't seem to be a connection between the prices of games and the local social / economic status of individual countries.

To be honest, it's kind of hard for me nowdays to buy new, original games at full 60E price. For the last 2 years I've been buying only indy and early access games, and been waiting for AAA games that I like to get old and on sale.

But Fallout 4 doesn't seem to be an exclusion here, many other games are sold for 60E too.

No one in Brazil will pay that absurd price for one game. It's like paying $120 for one game and take into consideration that people in Brazil are pretty poor to begin with. Even if the currency has dropped alot compared to the american dollar lately doesn't mean that people's wages have changed.

You'd be surprised.

Seriously though, that's probably a mistake. If it isn't though, OP should wait for a lower price.

There was a trailer with PT-BR subtitles, I wouldn't be surprised if the game had them as well.

I really hope that is a mistake, I hope that they wanted to put 150 and for some reason the finger went to "2" instead of "1", but now they changed it to 249, only God knows what is on their minds.

can anyone from bethesda clarify this? there is no taxes or anything like this for digital games on Steam, we have example of AAA titles costing less than half of what bethesda is asking( i payed 79,90 reais on the WItcher 3 on Nuuvem, GTA V was 99 reais, Batman is also going for 99 on Nuuvem and its 119 on steam), a lot of sites are reporting this and it seems bethesda is just ignoring everybody,

bethesda is the one that sets the prices, and not only they are following the new Warner price model for console games, they are asking that same price(249,90) on PC, that is 80 dolars, they are obviously trying to see if people will buy this, this is also no error, as Nuuvem has a more direct relationship with these publishers and their price is the same, except they are offering a discount, bethesda needs to say something about this.

there is no mistake, this was done on purpose, just like MK X and many other games, its been a while since publishers want to charge PC gamers the same they charge for consoles games(which there is no excuse and is also abusive).

I wonder what is average salary in your country? Something around 300-400 usd?

I can advise you only one thing, buy it on torrents by the price of the Internets and play with the rest of the world.

When wait for steam summer sale and buy the game.

how much that is from your mini wage? what bethesda is asking is almot 32% of our mini wage, 250 is more than twice the price of Batman Arkham Knight and its more than 3 times the price i paid on the Witcher 3.

right now its 250 usd(oh sorry, you asked average, average is about 700 usd), i will simple wait till its for 80% off, i like to support companies with fair prices, like i did for Shadow of Mordor, The Witcher 2 and 3, Dragon Age Inquisition and many other games, but this is abusive and i know very well why they are doing this

they simple saw what publishers like Warner and Ubisoft are doing here in brazil and they went and doubled that price, this will hurt the market here, because if the other publishers adopt this for their mega AAA games, sales WILL be hurt and piracy will rise, not that i will do that, but they not sell to the bulk of PC users.

The minimum wage would be something like U$250,00 while a average salary would be U$500~750
