Steam: release date fail?

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 4:04 am

Hi!
I′ve been waiting badly for the release and its just around the corner now. But i live in europe; so the game will be released three days later here.
Besides me wondering about this weird shenanigans of releasing a finished game on different dates to the world (which must be some kind of greedy thing, i wouldn′t have any logistical explanation for that in the 21st century)
I still have the plan to play it when all you american fallout fans start playing. In fact, i want to be one of the first.

Now, before somebody starts mentioning some legal stuff, i want to mention that from what i′ve read it seems to be legal to pretend that your in a different steam region than your own.
And iam not even making it about the money that i′d save (about 15€) -i just want to play it when it′s released :D

From what i′ve seen, its possible for me to get a Key of New Vegas on release date. But will steam recognize this key? Or will it just tell me to wait three more days for my game?
Any of you guys had experience with this and/or planning a similar approach in 9 days? Please share.

There is actually a reasonable reason for the lapse in release dates.

Supplying fraudulent information is generally considered, well fraud. Unless you can show me where Steam says this is OK I'm going to assume it's unacceptable. If you can PM me with this information I'll happily open this back up.

The Steam copy can't be unlocked until the game hits the retail shelves. Even in the 21st century shipping something to a different location can take extra time and involve extra hurdles. A slightly staggered release can also help with production since they can start moving the game to stores in stages rather than keeping the entirety in warehouses until the last minute.
