The GECK for Fallout NV is a standalone app. I don't see any reason why the CK would be any different.

Not if you have the non steam patched exe. And the CK is a separate entity, its not the game, why should I have to have steam running to make mods?? They way they talk about the workshop it really seems like its going to be required... :(

Why would it matter to you? You bought Skyrim and was forced to use steam, why do you care if this forces you too?

It said that steam workshop will be integrated into the CK... Mods can be used on external sites, but I want to be able to run the CK on a computer without steam.

Why are you really concerned about this though? Does steam cause your computer to spontaneously blow up every time it starts?

At least from my perspective, for what it represents. I would like to have seen something more along the lines of an ad-share incentive to modders, as well as a community portal OTHER than lame Steam that would possibly even have monthly nominations based on said community feedback of mods to be brought into Bethesda's shop to become official DLC, so the best customer created mods could actually make it to consoles, with some meaningful revenue again getting back to the community that do this pro bono, and help make the Elder Scrolls amazing as it is.

This whole Steam endeavor really seems a lot like icing without the cake to me.

I wish Beth would hire me as a community manager and designer of said web portal…

The new Cs WILL require steam to operate. Which I don`t know why they are doing it that way. Been modding since Morrowind and you never needed to be online and connected to anything just to mod. If people want to use the workshop that`s great but stop forcing us into this steam system. Give an option for a true offline CS like they used to be.

You might be refering to something steam has alrealy done to your game like with the most recent patch.

Im talking about those poor saps living in rurul area with dail up, I wish there was a way they could enjoy the game.

Could you link to the confirmation? *hungry dog face*

As it is it just says that Steam Workshop will be integrated with the CS, what doesn't deny of confirm anything.

If the CS can operate offline in steam, then i see no worry.

If not then, that is a major fault.

I will laugh my ass off if Steam goes bankrupt in February or something. Bethesda will be screwed.

I'm more than positive CK will be standalone and not require Steam.

I just hope this doesn't affect Nexus as they've put a lot of work into their mod manager and their community.

If it really did say steam sweatshops going to be integrated with the cs its a pretty safe beat you are going to have to have steam running in the back ground, just like with your skyrim.

Essentially the CK is a 3D creation program somewhat like maya or 3DS max, albeit very, very, very, very simplified. But any 3D artist will tell you, you don't want useless **** running in the background when working in these types of programs. Not to mention VALVE "can" charge a fee for your mod, so that pretty much guarantees the nexus will be the top mod depot again. FYI bethesda, pirates don't create mods, they download them so requiring steam to run your more than likely sensitive unstable CK is rather moot.

The Creation Kit will require Steam to run, according to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1300564-its-been-announced-modders-rejoice/page__view__findpost__p__19580055:

Does this mean the CS is going to require steam to run as well?

Yes it will, but as mentioned, if folks want to upload content to sites like Nexus, they'll still be able to do that.

I don't think that would be possible even if there were no STEAM WORKSHOP. The CK requires the game (or at least there is no reason to have the CK if you don't have the game installed). Unless you've hacked Skyrim, Steam is required to run it (even if off-line).
