Steam taking over 15mb of ram?

Post » Mon Jul 26, 2010 6:54 am

Task manager shows steam.exe taking up over 15mb of ram. hardly negligable as they claim, I wonder how much bandwidth it takes up.

The corporations claim that DRM does not impact performance to a noticeable degree, this is clearly not true.

That's it? My current Firefox session is using around 500 megs of mine.

Your post did not make sense on so many levels...

What does RAM usage have to do with bandwidth?

What does... wtf? (I'm sorry, that's the best I can do for that one.)

If you have a somewhat capable rig, you're not going to miss 15MB of RAM.

obviously you have nothing better to do other than bragging about your system.

This is a real technical issue with Steam, and there a number of recent threads on Steam forums about this.

Do you know what RAM is? As long as your computer isn't trying to use more than its maximum, then there is absolutely no performance impact. And 15MB of RAM is incredibly insignificant.

The mods made an http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1179634-unofficial-steamdrm-thread/ for the very purpose of centralizing all Steam discussion. It's not even halfway down the first page, for god's sake.

Lol, I'm not bragging. I'm just saying that 15MB is nothing on any machine that should have Steam on it. My Steam is currently taking roughly 14,500K of my memory right now. Is yours updating something? Maybe you have your friends list open? Mine just jumped to ~20,000K when I opened my friends list. I opened my library and it bumped it up to ~36,000K.

Edit: After closing my library and friends list, it actually dropped down close to 10,000K.

Nah, I'll be the first to admit my computer svcks and I don't miss 15MB of RAM. Steam usually takes up a bit more than that the rare times I use it.

That's substantially less than I'm using for AIM, which is minimized, and doesn't have any chat windows active.

considering I just got off a game that took up 1.73 gigs of ram, 15 megabytes for steam seems really inconsequential.
