Patch Notes

Fixed angle of grass
Tweaked hue of tree trunks

Oh yeah, thank god Bethesda listened to my endless complaints about the hue of tree trunks.

Well, I just downloaded it and now I can't open Skyrim without it opening Steam. Before I was able to click on the Skyrim icon and it would start Skyrim without using Steam. Now it's starting Steam up before launching Skyrim. So it looks like this makes it so those of us who were playing Skyrim without Steam unable to do so anymore. :( :sadvaultboy:

Yep. No more 4gb patch or anything else. Gives the usual steam 'encrypted' error if you patch it, and try to play.

If this is true, that's infuriating. The 4gb patch thing was what stopped me having constant CTDs.

Aye. Valve doesn't like it when you don't let them watch.

On the good side of things, I actually opened Steam to download the patch. So if you are playing Skyrim and haven't opened Steam, just leave it closed and you won't get the patch.

Same thing here and ofcourse useless steam never ask if you want the patch it just download and install it. :banghead:

No wonder piracy is encouraged atleast with that you can decide to patch or not.

It's true. I don't see SKSE being released anytime soon to work around it. So the only option is to make a backup, before launching, and disable updating.

Same.

Glad I waited.

No patches for me though.....

Shame on you Bethesda/Valve. You are supposed to fix games, not re-break them!! :(

Steam never forces you to update the game. There's a little box you can tick to turn off automatic updates.

Crap! I forgot to backup my file before setting the flag :( Does this mean I can't play Skyrim now? I think I have a /largadressaware patcher that allows me to uncheck the 4GB box again. I will do this before I open up Steam and see if it patches correctly,

Which works... until you launch the game while online.

Does not work when you try to launch it wants to update first, only offline mode works.

Ever heard of offline mode? The vast majority of complaints about steam seem to come from massive ignorance.

I remember I made a copy of my Skyrim.exe because I made my program 64bit compatible with a program called Explorer Suite and it reminded me to make a backup of my Skyrim.exe before I changed it to 64bit compatible. I just recopied that skyrimbackup.exe to Skyrim folder and renamed it Skyrim.exe and problem sloved!

Which it ignores, anyway thanks Bethesda\Steam for breaking the 4GB patch, the one thing that stopped it crashing.

So if I saved a back up of my 4G mod I can just replace it with the one I'm downloading now with the update?

For some reason I saved the .exe with the 4G mod.

You can actually bypass Steam altogther by clicking on the Skyrim.exe in the steamapps common folder. It appears that this new downloaded exe prevents that from happening. So you don't need to play in offline mode, you don't need Steam at all, until this update.
