Steam Won't Update My Version of Skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 7:08 pm

I intially purchased Skyrim through Steam when it first released. i had major heartburn trying to run it, because Steam at the time had no offline mode and kept aggressively sending content and messages into my computer. So, I quit trying to play Skyrim and removed Steam from the computer.

More recently, I found out Steam now has an Offline mode; so, I started trying to use Skyrim again. I purchased the the Skyrim Legendary Edition at the local Target, which includes Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn, even though I still had the original file purchase on my Steam account. In short, this was a less expensive way to get the expansion files than what is offered on Steam. I have the disc and code, which I purchased.

However, Steam does not allow me to reinstall the game from the disc; and continues to only offer the add-ons at their ridiculous prices. I can not contact Steam through their so-called "support." It seems they don't actually offer support.

I've now purchased Skyrim twice, and am still struggling to play it after 5 years, mainly because of Steam. I understand the intent of Steam; but, all they seem to do is prevent me from playing the game. TERRIBLE system for PC users. I am at the point of giving up on Skyrim altogether, because of Steam.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. I found the Sticky up above. Thanks to the Staff for help navigating Steam. I still dislike having to work through Steam. There HAS to be a better way.

Nope. All Steam did was reinstall itself from the disc. I still do not have the expansion files accessible. Any suggestions?

To activate your legendary edition on Steam, click "add a game..." in the lower left of the Steam client. Then click "Activate a Product on Steam...".

This is where you enter the serial code (or serial codes if there are more than one) for your game.

You'll usually find this code at the lower back of the manual or in some cases on a sticker inside the case.
